i don't know if it's really Richard, but this is a post from a guy named "richardshiner" in an Aphex/lineup thread,
"ok, so, let me say this, expect things unheard from albums....the last AFX show was at ATP. Albums are just that.... finished product... there is more to hear. ATP was an experiment in the many other things built in the machines, as was the previous party in the mountains.... sorry, its been a long time. Ambient and down tempo is beautiful, but is not what people want to hear in any live space where the mood is an uplifting bounciful time, and the AFX show will not be a downer end of the night thing. And hits? Its been a few shady years between the last AT album and the rephlex tunes....there are things, but there have been things sine the last shows.....which werent played.....if you want to hear whats on an album, disc, or drive, you can, but shows are a spectacle and exactly what they are.....a show....you can have any mate come over and cheer in your place and get the reverb and crowd over a recorded session. shows are for the showmanship, and have alwys been, Why expect something big and let it tank. If you want to dance. you will.
there are no genres, there are only beats and rhythm."

well wtf ever. i don't know where that "party in the mountains" comment is coming from. that thing was moved to a shitty race track/event grounds in San Bernadino at the last minute after being planned to happen at a ski resort, cause all this equipment was ruined by dust there the year before (late summer).

the first tune after the ambient thing is Public Enemy. i didn't know which but someone said "Welcome to the Terror Dome".
i was there as well and danced my ass off. i was wondering when XLT was going to get on it and say something about this.

plenty of people say aphex isn't much of a dj, but man, after seeing this clip, dunno how anyone could say that. everything he does fits in his sets so perfectly..im really curious how long does it take him to get a set like this together..or how much is left to chances

i certainly didn't notice right away but after some folks mentioned it, basically this was kind of like a history of techno or history of sampling set. he starts off with the hip hop, goes into some Chicago stuff and later some more modern house. then a little bleepy type stuff followed by an all out drill n bass/breakcore war.

this doing electronica history insigt became sort of his trade mark i think, though not all sets are like that, but he usually always plays very diverse, eclectic stuff. also, i think it's all audience friendly, it's what makes his sets so awesome. i don't know of any other djs who build up atmosphere like he does..it's just awesome

oh it was all audience friendly for me too, i just meant for the lingering Diplo crowd (who didn't give us any room in the front whatsoever after he was over [not to say that Diplo wasn't 'over' throughout his entire set]).

hah..man, it's really the worst part of his live shows. it's always so packed it's really hard to dance and you can't not dance to music he plays, so it turns into suffering of a kind sometimes : )
however, i managed to get myself to a couple of less crowded shows in the past and it was splendid..the whole place was going mental.
another terrible thing is that he always leaves crowd beging for more..no matter how worn out you feel you just want to go mental untill you pass out..electronic music beats anything dance wise : )

"electronic music beats anything dance wise : )"
no truer words. i'd even go further and say it was the ultimate music, because the instrument is the studio and the
point of the studio is to get the sound right. it's sound for the sake of sound. it can celebrate everything that music is.
i've been obsessed with the synth and drum machine sound since
i was a kid too. it spoke to me. it would later make so much
sense that i end up here.

i like lelectronic music simply because it can take me places most other music can't..but i like that other music as well because it has something electronic music doesn't. music in general is awesome : )

There's been mention above of the possibility of the existence of a soundboard from Richard's Coachella gig this past Friday, however unlikely such a recording might be.
But if it does exist, then is it true I'm at the one place where I'd be most likely to hear it first?

Tolstoyed -- thank you & I appreciate the reassurance that I'm at the right place.
As I just posted in the "New member? Say Hi!" thread, I was there Friday night. Of course, the main reason I went was Aphex, primarily because I doubt I have more respect for any other electronic musician in the world. (With the possible exception of another Richard -- that is, "Rick" Smith from Underworld. Oh, and Tom Rowlands from the Chems.)
I cannot express how much admiration I now have for AFX. It's infinite. I only suspected it before, but now I'm certain about he and I having the same tastes in music, as the Coachella performance cemented that notion.
After opening with both "Welcome To The Terrordome" (Public Enemy) and "Beats To The Rhyme" (Run-D.M.C.) -- two of my favorite tracks of any kind of music, ever -- he could have done no wrong. But he went from there to span all variants of electronic music, then forging ahead with a drill & bass gauntlet, and finally building to the most severe sonic holocaust I've yet heard from any band or soloist.
Should I ever find this set as a recording, I'll thank all the gods, individually.

From Wikipedia:
"The name 'Aphex Twin' is derived from Aphex Systems Limited, a brand of audio signal processing equipment. It is used with permission, as was recognized on the back sleeve of his 'Richard D. James' and 'Drukqs' albums. He has explained in interviews that the 'Twin' is in memory of his brother, also named Richard James, who died at birth."
