OK -- it's projected to happen in ten years time, and to replace the television licence . . . so what's so bad about it? The BBC is probably the best broadcasting corporation in the world, and people who grumble about paying their television licence should be forced to watch ITV 3 24 hours a day for an entire week.

Word!
If you don't want to pay for BBC, you're a cunt. I'd gladly pay, but we're already paying for the Norwegian equivalent, which, I must add, isn't really too shabby either, even if their self-produced shows aren't as easily adaptable to international broadcast (being in Norwegian, and all). We also have selfish bastards who nag on and on about having to pay for something "I don't use" and totally neglecting how a purely market-run broadcasting scheme would underrepresent parts of the populace's interests both in information and in entertainment.

Well, freqy, it's not due for serious consideration for another decade, when I'm guessing it will be examined whether or not television is piped in along with Internet. So, I'm guessing it'll be if you have an Internet Connexion rather than if you have a P.C.
gingaling - the BBC have wonderful education programmes -- maybe you could watch a few on English Language? In between your Al Jazeera viewings, of course.

when was the last time you saw an English Language programme on the BBC? But in agreement, yes they do put out some pretty special TV. I just dont trust any goverment screened news source. What did you learn in school about war time propaganda, I believe what we see now is not much more than a further extension of it. Thats all.

I seriously doubt millions of people in the UK have a computer but never watch / listen to / read BBC.
And, as the article says, and has been said to you twice, it's projected to be seriously considered a decade from now, and seemingly refers to internet specifically rather than PCs generally.

dunno about british tv channels or whatever, but this kinda makes sense.
in ten years time, you're not gonna have a tv, a games console, a radio, a house phone, a mp3 player, a dvd player and a pc. it's probs all gonna be in one unit, either in your living room as a home entertainment system or a portable device like a cellphone or whatever. that's why microsoft blow so much cash on the xbox consoles, cuz it's the future.
how will the bbc charge for tvs when nobody will have them anymore? it would be like charging for record or betamax players.
