Punk/Metal/Breakbeats/Noise

Check it out!!

its really the hardes music there is.

personally, i think its harder than venitian snares and
slipknot or any other thing! really really nice stuff.

atari teenage riot is not punk.

sex pistols kick ass, but the ramones are better.

what do you mean american nu stuff?

punk happened in london in 1977, new punk is not that
terrible american nu rock, its squarepusher , aphex etc,
they have the punk sensibilities in a new direction

offline DirtyPriest from Copenhagen (Denmark) on 2002-03-24 21:20 [#00139687]

Yeah, ok, but alec empire calls it punk himself. but its not
crappy guitar whiners.... its real hardcore.

hmm punk was 3 chords at the most, i'd say afx or
squarepusher are a bit beyond that?

offline kara on 2002-03-24 21:22 [#00139694]

punk was the attitude of not giving a s****t etc

yeah, i agree punk is more attitude than anything, which is
why kid606 or squarepusher or a[hex are more punk than
*shudders* sum41 or blink182 will ever be.

ATR is definitly punk. They stand for basically the same
things as the early punkers did. ATR have hard fast sloppy
guitarts and scream lyrics about anarchy and a basic fuck
you to the government. How could they not be punk? They
even use Sex Pstols samples.

the refused that I remember being into was a straight-edge
hardcore band but that was a long time ago. they had an
album called this just might be the truth. as far as
squarepusher being punk I like the idea but I'm not sure the
kids who like old school punk rock would go for it.

nah...some good punk did come out of America..not this wave
but the one before in the eighties..Dead Kennedys..Black
Flag..X etc..the LA scene..and then came the straight
edge..most of it was pretty mediocrecbut..there's Minor
Threat which turned into Fugazi..in my opinion one of the
best punk bands ever...plus the collaborations of Jello
Biafra (off DK) and Ian McKay (Fugazi) with Al Jourgensen
(Ministry) called LARD and Pailhead repectively are
definetly worth checking out for fans of punk and industrial
alike

embrace came in between minor threat and fugazi...did you
like them? they were kind of emo before emo started.

Only punk I like is The Clash, and they never really seemed
like other punk bands to me... they're just too good! I
always hated the Sex Pistols, overrated junk.

yup, nice transition between M.T. and fugazi. its on
discord of course and I believe there is only one album by
them.

i think all of the good punk came out of america, eg Nofx,
Black flag, circle jerks, ramones, minor threat, bad branes,
etc
sex pistols were cool with the whole attitude thing but when
i came down to the real musical part i don't think it's that
good

hmm..will have to look em up sometime..not been in punk
buying mode lately..and even then I switched over from punk
to noisecore...Touch and Go..Amrep..stuff...all the deep
meaningful stuff..became a bit..um...tedious...
Oh and Dave thanks for reminding me about Bad
Brains..awesome band..but to me they were so much more
versatile and evolved than mere punk..

my frend landon likes old 80s punk alot and he's always
complaining about the stupid modern punk bands like
melloncollin because there too slow and they focus on the
vocals too much, back in the day punks bands just rambled
and screamed about nothing

I know what you mean flea. I haven't bought a hardcore
album in probably over two years. considering there was a
time when I had over 200 hardcore releases 2 years is a long
time. but with bands like godspeed you black emperor and
dirty three out there it was easy to get distracted.

i am yet to try Godspeed..but from the descriptions they
sound like Thinking Fellers Union..or Flaming Lips..am I on
the right track there?

Flea you need to try Godspeed... They are nothing like
Flaming Lips TFU (imo). They follow much less conventional
structure for their songs. They are like an Apocalyptic
Orchestra. I wouldn't know how else to describe 'em.

far:)

'Dead Flag Blues' on infinity has a spoken intro by Lee
Marvin! How cool is that! I actually think infinity is
GYBE's weakest album (amazing but they got better)
