Quaristice: Your Verdict?

So, now that it's available as a digital download @ bleep
(and therefore on SLSK, what, waffles), how do you like it?

I'm only on track nr 2 at the moment, but I'm enjoying the
Beat & Noise combination.

i'd expected a disappointment, but didn't get one

nice overall

loving the ambient tracks and 'rale' especially

Well I have tried to be fair and buy it from Bleep but the
order has been zipping for an hour and a half. Fucking sham
it is.

The album though from my first listen earlier is that it is
enjoyable and definitely worth more listens.

I've listened up until rale, and I feel it is very good as a
work but I'll get back to you.

It's got some great tracks. Theres something for everyone on
this album I think. I'm glad they returned back to melodies
a bit.

The drawback for me I guess is after hearing IO (wasn't fond
of it on the live set but the voice is mad in this version)
I was excited to hear what other untilted liveset tracks
they'de have on the album, and chenc9 was not what I wanted,
it was the track right after it, comes in 30:00 on the
glasgow soundboard set. Was really frustrated by that.

well its easier to mention the tracks i DONT like so much.

perlence
simmm
bnc castl
chenc9

really all the rest are top notch. just need some time to
learn the album 'fluently' before picking absolute
favorites.

I'm really enjoying the phat ambience of it: it seems to
have a nice organic feel to it, a sort of easiness. I was
half fearing harsh abstract sounds, but it's very pleasant
(so far!)

It's a seriously dense listen. i hear alot of their H30
collab release style coming through by the end of it...
definitely contains some of their best stuff ever. the
production is amazing.

i would say that it has actually no difficult parts at all.
in the sense that pen expers might have been when first
heard.

its all pretty easy going and catchy, i like that

id have to give it a 7/10, cause confields a 10, and how can
this be as good as that.

offline Vin3islih from United Kingdom on 2008-01-29 15:32 [#02168941]

I'd place it above most of the post-Confield stuff on
account of all the variety. There's a lot to take in here,
but it might be the best thing they've put out this century.

offline cx from Norway on 2008-01-29 15:36 [#02168945]
Points: 4537 Status: Regular

well i had tons of good moments with bine, uviol, pen
expers, eidetic, parhelic, and in a sense i would say
confield is a bit more "progressive", a bit more esoteric
perhaps.
confield in a way sounds more 'big', maybe a bit more
serious.

In regards to Confield, I wondered if you thought it sounded
detached? emotionally, intellectually.

offline cx from Norway on 2008-01-29 15:48 [#02168953]
Points: 4537 Status: Regular

hm not emotionally, i dunno about intellectually cause i
dont ever apply that word to music

one of my favorite moments of all time in autechres
trackography is when they bring in the alien like voice-ish
sound in uviol around 2 minutes in.
its very emotional and gives me strong associations to a
unique world only autechre really can provide.

tankakern gives me the same type of association, when the
aching type voice sound comes in.. but on tankakern at least
on this audio system it sounds different still.

thats probably the best way i can explain it ;p

offline cx from Norway on 2008-01-29 15:49 [#02168955]

HEAVY

thats the word i was looking for.
confield is way more heavy than this. it doesnt grind and
ache so much, i guess

offline goDel from ɐpʎǝx (Seychelles) on 2008-01-29 15:51 [#02168957]
Points: 10225 Status: Lurker

7/10 for me as well.
i'm not sure whether i'm happy with the shorter than usual
tracks. on the one hand i miss those real epic tracks. on
the other hand each of these tracks have a simple
recognizable theme in an almost pop-like sense. it'll
probably work wonders for my ipod experience, so i guess
it's a positive. and the extra cd of the limited set
promises some epic tracks, of course (11 tracks in 68
mins).
and the music itself, well, it obviously needs more listens,
but there are already a couple of good tracks (90101,
theswere, the plc, tankakern, rale, altibizz). others are
downright annoying (simmm, io).
in short: good, but not their best. lets see what the extra
disc brings...

i've stayed away from all this pre-leak nonsense for awhile
but i've listened to the album through a couple times and i
think it is quite good. i don't care for the beginning 4
tracks that much, but once Perlence hits i dig it all the
way through.

i'm more interested in the 11 track version to be honest.
don't get me wrong, i think a lot of it is great sounding,
but i cant shake the feeling that this album could have a
smaller track selection, and that those tracks would be more
developed.

and the fact that they are releasing a version of this cd
that does exactly that tells me that this was an anticipated
complaint, or that they felt the same way about their own
release. either way, i'm glad they are releasing an 11 track
version.

too early to tell how id feel about this album exactly
overall, but so far so good. bit all over the place but the
tracks flow and work together much better than i
anticipated.

it's definately a grower - getting better every time. but
still it seems a bit too abstract too me at this moment to
judge. i mean draft 7.30 took me two years to fully get into
it (still considered the best autechre imo)

although i have to admit that it seems more like an album
containing of "sketches" rather than really logic tracks.
time will show.

Yeah. I'm not sure if it's the music that gives this
impression on its own or if it's what they said in the
Barcode interview + what I've listened to from their recent
live sets, but it does seem quite sketchy and restless. I'm
also a bit disappointed, like Gwely Mernans, in what
elements they chose from the live show.

I'm looking forward to the 11 extra tracks.
