Reason 4.0 hate thread

what a piss of shit.
finally got around to updating to 4.0 (reasons being the
modular synth and so i could send tracks back and forth with
friends who also have version 4, as tracks made/opened in 4
won't open in 3).

it's fucken terrible! they tried to improve the sequencer,
but they made a mess out of it. everything takes an extra
click or two, and everything feels so limited now that you
can't sequence outside of those drawn in areas (that are..
for some reason, absolutely necessary to draw/record
anything).

the worst thing is, i would give anything to go back to
version 3, except i've opened most of my songs in reason 4
and none of them will work in reason 3 anymore.

fucken! cock! ass! hell!

the sequencer's a bit fucking weird, yeah

that whole dark/light shit, what's going on there

i could see this coming.
but there's still bound to be some reason users who'll at
least agree/disagree with what im actually saying.

Thanks for letting me know, I'll just stick with 3.0 then.
And uhm, no, Reason hasn't always been awful.

yeah it is a bit harder to keep a good work flow going, but
it's worth it with the new arp and thor. Finally with thor
reason sounds more professional.

fun!

The only annoying part is that new areas which are drawn
when you record, but I got used to it quite quickly. The
sequencer for the most part is vastly improved from before.
The automation lanes are now perfect and thank fuck we can
finally make multiple note lanes on a single device.

Thor is absolutely incredible, the arp rocks and the whole
thing is just a pleasure to use. No hate from me!

: )
sooo, there's hope i will still get used to it after all!

but seriously! you could have multiple note lanes in reason
3 and im still not enjoying the new sequencer!

I didn't find any problems, I just had a fiddle around and
it is was fine. All it'll need is a little time.

Between the ultrathin sound of most of the generators, the
lack of vsti support and the fact that the width is small
and not expandable made me change from reason to fl to
ableton, and lemme tell ya, ableton is like 1000x better and
more professional

Ableton Live is the shiznit. It's my new found love. You can
still use Re-wire to use reason tho.

I think the ideal thing would be to have both pro-tools and
ableton, and if you still like reason, you can use it with
both of those.

I sometimes rewire reason into live. I have to say though I
have mainly been using reason as an effects box more than
anything else. However I really like thor, I can see myself
getting some good sounds out of it.

I used to swear to Fruityloops, and defend at any chance
possible, because i've seen people make some pretty amazing
things with it (Khonnors whole album for example, and my own
stuff even)

But i must say, Ableton blev me completely away. It took me
2 (intense) days to learn it, and it's just so good. It's
great for IDM'ish things, but it also fits my needs
perfectly (And i make electronic driven pop music with
guitars!)
It comes down to the details of the program... I just really
like the feel of it. It's super logical to use. The basics
are easy, but theres so much room to experiment. I'm in
love...

Reason never made me shit my pants with enjoyment. But i
didnt give it the biggest of chances, i must admit.

Reason works for me. I find it very intuitive. Live is
awesome as well though. I really do need to spend some more
time with it to get the best out of it.

Yes I do. These were all created either exclusively in
Reason 2.5, others were made using it in create sounds that
were sequenced in other programs.

Generally speaking and no offense to anyone, but if you
think Reason sounds like shit ...chances are you're basing
your experience on an eariler version (with v3 and the
combinator everything changed) and/or you might juat not be
that great at producing.

Reason 4 is absolutely amazing. I applaud Props for not
going the VST route, as everyone else has. By considering
Reason as a modular synth and using it in none timeline sort
of ways, I've been able to do MUCH more interesting stuff
than I could ever do with a "blank canvas" DAW like Live.

Dont get me wrong, they all have their strong suits, but
often the criticisms of Reason are shot from the hip IMHO.

offline Brisk from selling smack at the orphanage on 2008-01-21 06:38 [#02165888]
Points: 4667 Status: Lurker

Yeah, the whole "reason sounds thin" argument was pretty
much put to waste after 3.0. Personally, I rarely use the
mastering tools within reason (except a maximiser linked to
the line mixer and the eq's of course) and do it all
externally, but you can still get some seriously lush sounds
if you know what you're doing.

Well, I used reason from 1.0 to 2.5 iirc.

I had a lot of fun with reason, especially in the beginning,
but ableton live really is just more for me no matter how
good v4 is now..
I made a song in reason 4 though for the first time in
years, was ok.

gl0tch that track rocks btw ;)

more than one second? What are you trying to achieve
exactly? I'm not being critical, just curious.

Not sure what you are basing that on, considering you're
probably not listening to people's track for more than one
second or one minute anyways. I uploaded the previous track
moments ago and you responded in shorter time than the
duration of the track itself, which means you didnt listen
to the whole thing.

It's no big deal, you're welcome to your own opinion.

However, I'd encourage you to share with us something that
is, as you say, memorable for more than one second.

Have they fixed the problem with wav rendering sounding
different to the live playing sound in reason 4?
I've used reason 2 and that still had the weird flat
rendering sound.

Yeah, that totally makes sense. Way to go!

It's a shame how well you play the role of the bitter and
jaded Brit. I know several people like you. You're a dime
a dozen.

I can't count the amount of times a British friend will
admit his inability to understand how people in the states
are able to get excited about other people's progress and
success. They just can't grasp being able to look on the
bright side, to be able to actually care beyond themself.
I'm confused, is this a cultural thing? For you
specifically, it says a lot about the general negativity and
self loathing you suffer. It's very sad.

Please continue talking your baseless shit. You'll never be
able to back it up.
