Anyone that thinks Ron Paul sucks needs to go on youtube - type in Peter Schiff and have a listen. All those idiots arguing with Peter about the economy are the same idiots (not literally) that were arguing with Paul and thought they had a clue as to get us out of this mess.
As you can see they don't. Sorry if you don't like Paul's stance on free-markets and a lot of other non status-quo ideas, but the fact remains that these other assholes will throw us down the shiter. Bailout Fannie and Freddie and socialize the losses????!!!!! Destroy the USD even more by letting the FED print $$$$ we don't have and will never have because of our debt and trade deficit???
Get your priorities in check before slamming someone.

during the 90s the democrats were reducing the trade deficit and the national debt, we don't need some crank who wants to go back to the gold standard and cut off all government aid to everybody, whether they need it or not.

LOL do you actually believe that rubbish? Government numbers are LIES. If you think what they tell us is fact, you're being gullible. Just look at what the government says inflation is at. C'mon use some common sense.
Oh, and the gold standard - so what's worse having a system where our $$$ is backed by something so government can't spend more than they have. Look at the business cycle. Why does such a thing occur? It's not a natural occurence. Having such a system does not hurt the public, it helps them.
And the talk of government aid. Quote me where he said he would leave people in the streets. He said the opposite in fact. Federal government shouldn't be dealing with this. It should be a state and local government function. All states have different needs (say Michigan VS California), so let them handle things. When things get to blown up, they become harder to manage.
Like I said youtube Peter Schiff and listen to him. Sort the videos by last added so you can hear him talk about relevant things.

so why would they suddenly start telling us that the trade deficit and national debt have been going up since 2000? where's the logic in that? i don't trust everything the gov says, but to simply dismiss everything is paranoid in the extreme.

The trade deficit and debt have gone up. These past 8 years the neo-cons have spent more than the big spenders have (liberals). Do you know why things seemed so peachy in the Clinton years (especially the late 90s)? It's because of the tech bubble popping. Alan Greenspan popped that damn bubble (btw their would be no bubbles if on the gold standard - just like how we popped the housing bubble last year) and it made it look like America was better off then we were.
What you need to realize is that things have gotten worse these past 8 years, and Clinton before Bush did nothing to help us out either. They are all scum. You need to stop picking sides on these issues and realize that nearly ALL politicans play into the corporations bidding.

See this is what gets me, people "think" that if you take the federal government out of things, (in this case federal aid) it will go to shit. It's already shit. Look at how well FEMA handled Katrina.
If a state is having a tough time with things (why I mentioned Michigan) than they can have a talk with the Federal government or another state. It is absolutely amazing how people can't see the other side of things and ASSUME that once something like this is changed it can't be for the better.
Stop living in a box.
People are not just going to die in the streets and have nowhere to go. Odd how we have all these idiots in Washington pushing for more federal aid, and yet those same people don't prioritize the U.S. as #1. Sorry but throwing money we don't have at people who abuse the system, forget it.
That's why the Federal government needs to stay the hell out so states can deal with figuring out what they need and educating people specific to their area.

Oh and just to clarify on my talk about the economy under Clinton. The reason the 90s looked so good (especially the late 90s) is because of the bubbles in the tech sector and the housing market. The tech bubble burst first in 2000 (under good ol' GDubya) and then the housing market in 2006. This of course is what you see today.
And one last thing, if anyone says their is a bubble in commodities (aka Oil) - ignore them. They are wrong and being idiots.

Here we go. Peter Schiff talking to mortgage brokers about the housing bubble. The bubble popped in 2007 not 2006 (my mistake) and here he is talking about how these people will be out of jobs and how the housing market is a bubble.
Note: He was saying this BEFORE anyone was saying it in the public. If you don't know people scoffed at him and threw what he said in the street.
Part 1 of 8 - The other parts are in the side menu.

Then the people of mississippi better get their act together and change who's in power. I don't know the exact situation there, I know it's an impoverished state like a lot of other bible belt ones and Michigan.
And yes, people do abuse the damn system. Not all of them do, but yes people in this day of age rather get a free ride. I'm the same way. I rather work on days I don't have to do much of anything for easy $$$. It's the way it goes. Look at what people blew their FEMA aid on.
What you fail to understand is WE DON"T HAVE THE $$$$ to do these things. Read up on our economic situation. Do what our politicans aren't doing. If you would take the time to listen to a different view/read up on things you would understand how much of a hole we are in. FURTHERMORE like I said these idiots want to throw $$$ at these people but refuse to educate them. They think throwing endless $$ at these people will fix the problem while they put their attention elsewhere (AKA what I said about no one wanting to focus on #1 - The US.)
@Rad - you're not even worth my time right now.
And oxygen - about the 911 truthers. Just because RP doesn't believe it doesn't mean they still don't back him. He said he would like an independent investigation. Who knows what the truth is about 9/11 though. I don't believe the way the government tells me, but I don't buy into the Fanatical movement either.

I try to educate the people close to me and find other avenues that I am more comfortable with.

Uh no....I haven't made one racist or sexist remark in any of my posts. These are facts, like I said not everyone this applies to. It's the way America is now. People want a free/easy ride (I'd like the easy road to - although I'm reluctant now). What I'm saying shouldn't surprise you. I mean it's common sense.
Look at what happened to the housing market. If you watched that video you would realize the government is bailing people out people that bit off more than they can chew. People who bought SUVs and other "goods" they couldn't afford if it wasn't for home equity, those are the people being saved. There's more to it than just that "group", but look at what this is showing the American public.
And as Peter said, the next thing that will get bailed out are Credit Card Companies. People are going to max those cards (if they haven't already) only to have them get bailed out.
Typical liberal b/s, play the race/class/sexist card.

Exactly why I said my aid stance in passing. And this is the same ballpark, because those people getting bailed out want the easy road. You have your opinions on that fine. We both have real-world examples in our daily life I'm sure. Exactly why I haven't been stereotyping, because I CAN'T. Too great of a spectrum.
And furthermore this isn't the biggest problem. Them bailing out these two mortgage giants are being done to save us from other nations cashing in on our bad bonds we sold them. These fools don't understand that these things will collapse soon, and it will be far worse because they are prolonging it.
Stop bringing your mellow-drama into the thread. If you can't have a discussion without resorting to attacks then just take the high road and be done with it.

Excuse me, your subversive-college-freshman-who-has-just-taken-econ101 docudrama.
i'm not going to talk to you about public assistance anymore; i get the impression you don't know much about its history or how it actually operates in the united states. your stereotype about aid recipients as working the system or wanting the easy road indicates this, and i find would find it bothersome to explain it to you here when you can more easily do a little research on your own. Try reading a book--I recommend Poole's The Segregated Origins of Social Security: African Americans and the Welfare State. It's not a matter of real-world examples that you or I may have, you can't base policy off of "I know a guy..."
The notion that structural advantages and disadvantages are handed out in our society based on race, class and gender seems like it might be a new concept to you since you seemed to think I was accusing you of making overtly prejudiced remarks earlier. The people who comprise TANF roles are disproportionately African American women. According to your logic, this would mean that they disproportionately "want the easy road." I tend to think it is a little more complicated than that. Moreover, raising a family on public assistance is not the easy road that you seem to think it is.
anyway my mellow self is peacing this thread out

It's people like this that nitpick instead of focusing on bigger issues. If you have a problem with my notions of things then don't look to our government for the answer. $$$ spent overseas that could be better spent here. Guess who wanted that to happen?
And again playing on my words. For the last time - people want the easy way out - NOT ALL.
Keep arguing over trivial matters when bigger things are going down which will have a much greater impact.

I'm like WHAT? Where did I say our government has the answer, lol? i mean it should be obvious to everyone that they don't, and neither do you. i didn't say anything about overseas. i mean if barack obama wants to be president of israel, that's okay with me. but yeah, i was talking welfare, which if you didn't want to talk about, probably you shouldn't have brought it up!
it's a bit of a red herring to say one problem is not worth paying attention because there are other big problems. I'm sorry you think oppression is trivial, let me guess, you are a white middle class dude :) you are privileged in that they don't affect whether your children will have health insurance or nutritious food to eat, you just keep whining about the .0005 cents they take out of your probably inflated paycheck to cover these insufficient programs so that people w/no other recourse can almost almost almost scrape by.
