me and my girlfriend are looking rocky after 8 years together.
she was my first love and she is now a big part of my life. but we are very different people mentaly ,im a very deep thinker often to deep,
and she is abit narrow minded when it comes to my intrests and hobbies, we dont feel we are as close as a couple should be, but we still love each other .
I am also constantly drawn between my girlfriend and my friends because they dont really get on with each other so its times like new year that cause me great aggro.
There is also a nagging in my head that wont let me settle down and get married because i have never "played the field"and "sowed my seed" so to speak.
ARRHHHH!!! im all confused and dont know what i want ARRRRHH!!!!
*STARTS TO WIMPER*

not time to fuck around, mind you, that will mess with a relationship
but just time apart to enjoy friends and re-energize
after 8 years, that should required. if she comes back to you with the same emotions, or stronger ones, and you the same, great.
if not, well, you have a friend for life, so don't sweat.

but a recent 9 month gf has been asking me for help with troubles, and now I can talk to her about my own.
When you know someone so well, and there is no malice, it can happen.

One guy I know is still good friends with his ex, but neither of them are seeing anyone new (or so she says). I think their friendship will end when a new sperm donor enters the picture.

For starters, if you we're happy with yourself, you wouldn't need a girlfriend. This is a great opportunity to realize who you really are. Spend some time alone, it wont kill you.

i was heavily in love with a girl i had nothing in common with, so i feel you. i ended up ending it (not nearly as long as a reltionship, but i know love), very very painfully. in the end it was for the best in our situation, but i that doesn't mean it applies to your situation. i'm not one to give love advice, but i wish you the best, whatever happens.

Anytime you break up with someone there is afterwards the feeling that you've made a horrible mistake. This is as certain as the crankiness and depression when you're quitting tobacco.
It's hard to say if you should break up with her... have you met other wenches you have more in common with? Could you honestly say that another relationship would not end up with similar problems?
As I see it, once you've invested enough time getting to know someone and they're like family or even closer than family, it's a horrible waste to throw it away.
Imagine having to re-tell all your stories again, and having to listen to someone else's again, instead of the comfortable silent understanding that develops with a good longterm relationship. Ach, the work of relationship-building...
