Can anyone else find it hard to see a melodious future for Autechre? If you were to make a graph of their career, release wise, melodies on the y, glitchyness on the x, a steady 45 degree line would be the result going this way \.
But don't you reckon, where does their creative future lie? It's been like say a fine english artist like say Constable, growing up and evolving into Picasso. (not that i have anything against either of them).
So in 5 years, what will they be like? Merzbow?

In five years you asshats will be wishing for the classic, melodic sounds of Gantz Graf.
Seriously though, would you be happier if they were one of those bands that doesn't evolve... like BoC? *ducks*

fleetmouse - i am all for evolving bands or producers - the best ones do eg aphex twinymething.
it seems a bit odd and a little uncreative to me that autechre should abandon their melodious roots in favour of reckless unfriendly psycho beats.
and as far as boc's concerned you're right, mhtrtc and geogaddi are very similar in styles, but still both great albums.

and with ae... i think the middle years were the best... incunabula and amber are decent, but not nearly as good as the other two i mentioned earlier

theyre using their talent the way i want them too, so i guess everything is blanaced.
i think ae's music is constantly evolving, the problem is that you dont seem to do the same. you're stuck to their earlier more melodic tracks and just wish they'd continue to use the same formula. im glad theyre not.

Cortex- No, you're right in thinking i'm not too hot on the new stuff - though can't wait to get the dvd - but what i'm saying is that in my humble opinion i would prefer it if they had evolved in a different, slightly less unfriendly, cold kind of a way. That's just me. If you like it then super. I just can't listen to confield the whole way through, but tri repetae, lp5 and incunabula will last forever.
I would hate to see them use the same formula, the 3 albums mentioned showed progression that would be easy to recognise, fan or not, and i think they're great. To take away the melody for me is a shame or rather remove an essence of something that i will enjoy remembering throughout my day. I doubt i'm the only one that thinks like this.
Have a listen to drukqs cd 1 track 7 - now there is progression without compromising melody!
