Why Amber?????

i have just being reading over some old posts and seem to
have noticed that a lot of people say that Amber is their
favourite Autechre album. What am i missing about it?
i personally find it the most boring AE album and possibly
one of the most boring albums in my whole cd collection. I
love Ae but feel that they were very lazy with that album in
that it is very monotonous and the beats just aren't very
interesting. Basically, I was just wondering what it is that
other people find special in it.

I am of the opinion that the people who love Amber are those
that like their electronica IDM or whateverthefuck soothing
and relaxing.

For a soothing, relaxing almost ambient album Amber sure is
interesting. In fact, I've never heard anything that sounds
quite like it.

Don't get me wrong I know what you're saying my favourite Ae
is EP7.

never thought of that, as obvious as it seems. I'd
personally prefer incunabula or SAW2 if i wanted something
relaxing.
Different strokes for different folks i guess. I think
there's a thin line between soothing and boring, i guess
Amber crosses it for me.

I like Amber well, it's good and relaxing, but I also find
it to be the most boring of the AE releases I own. It's
good for what it is, but I don't really listen to it much.
I still lean towards tri-repetae as the best.

Incunabula is by far my favourite.

Amber is great... but Incunabla is better. And BOTH of them
are better than Gantz Graf. I really like their early,
cleaner style.

i consider Ae too be my favorite act in music, i find the
older Ae's stuff gets the less i like it... the newer it is
the more i like it... i started listening too Autechre via
Confield and went backwards... maybe im just crazy.

It's just the Autechre album that most pleases my ear. I
don't find it boring at all, quite the contrary really.

Gantz Graf is ok... but i would,nt put it over confield...
the track 'Dial' brought Gantz Graf down for me...

i think people like amber because it's mellow and controlled
- opposite to gantz graf

incunabula because it's probably their most scifi'ish work

its hard to appreciate gantz graf when you're comparing it
to.. err.. anything else.

very beautiful.

very nice... I like it better then Incunabula, even though
Incunabula is good...

i like incunabula more as amber.
Both are relaxing, but amber is more calmly, flowing, THE
perfect ambient album

I'm listening to Foil LOUD! I wish I could read my
neighbors' thoughts. The phasing at the beginning is awesome
at loud levels.

amber is a lovely album. it is great as an ambient,
latenight thing, but i much more prefer their latest stuff
for a good, concentrated listen.

amber is great... i don't find it boring at all; ep7 is more
boring imo, when you're not in the right mood!

some tracks (especially 'nil') sound quite like plaid to me,
but that's not a bad thing...

my fav. track must be 'further'... pure cold and iced
beauty.

Amber isn't one of my favourite Autechre albums, but it is
really good. I think it's the PERFECT morning album.

I'll tell you what _I_ don't get, and that's how popular Tri
Repetae is. Maybe it was revolutionary at the time or
something [I dunno, I wasn't into this sort of thing at the
time], but now it sounds soo old, like the music on WipEout
2097. Sounded great at the time, sounds like 1995 now.

Confield's the greatest though!

1995 is too old so long as it's 1996 or after.

amber is the logical step between incunabula and tri rep.
it's my least favorite ae album, but as any ae material,
it's still top stuff.

amber is great for listening when youre walking outside in
the snow.

AMBER is fucking awesome!!!
I just started listening to Ae, and although I've only heard
Incunabula, Amber, and half of Tri-Repetae, I deeply respect
Amber's mellowness with songs like "Slip", "Piezo",
"Yulquen", and "Nil". Just listening to those songs at full
volume with the headphones on produces a feeling no other
album can.
Then "Teartear" wraps it all up in an ambient blanket and
stomps the life out of it.....thrusting a dagger of anxiety
straight into your heart.
Incunabula comes close.......
