IronLung from Dark Side of the moon on 2001-12-18 10:02 [#00062082]

Woofer....I would have to agree on Amber....I think its
their best LP.

quernstone from padova on 2001-12-18 11:48 [#00062096]

Hey woofer check out incunabula. It has 'bass cadet' on it.
Pure bliss from back in the day.

phunqie from munich on 2001-12-18 13:02 [#00062120]

chiastic slide.

Scary Bear on 2001-12-18 13:09 [#00062122]

Only got LP5. But its good. Very good.

Netlon Sentinel from yurp on 2001-12-18 13:21 [#00062124]

ep7!!!

but you being a fan of the melodic may prefer amber.

Scary Bear on 2001-12-18 14:39 [#00062142]

Just bought confield for £6 off this nutcase business man.

First listen at present- I'm on track 2 'cfern'

It sounds cool. Its completely different, LP5 is a little
bit easier to follow than this one at present. None of my
tunes are anything quite like this, which is always good.

'Pen expers' just started. Bit easier to follow, bit more
late aphexy. Still thinking LP5 is better but its too early
to make judgement. ooh, that was phat. this track is really
fucking good. I am going to sit in the dark for a while and
close my laptop.

Ta ta :)

ken from ken on 2001-12-18 15:31 [#00062151]

check out their gescom guise as well-SKAM have reissued the
key nell 12 on cd-and theirs some hidden gems on the
skampler cd (see warpmart).

my top five..

keynell-ae mix (ltd 12 on warp)

conform-fuck what people say about being inaccessable all
you near is a pair of ears.

flutter-off anti ep, preprogrammed beats that dont repeat,
with a lush fade out that beats having dinner with jesus

amber-sounds a little dated now but still class-their are
genes in 'teartear' that ruminate throughout the rest of
their catalogue

chiastic slide-fucked up crazy industro electro

envane-hip hop funk with dr octagon on the decks scratchin
like a bear.

by the by all of their eps on cd are value for
money-45-50mins of genius for a fiver depending on where you
shop..

\/\/ooÆ’erAttack!!! from Milan on 2001-12-18 15:31 [#00062152]

It's difficult to say my favs 5 best albums
but I can't try...

. Selected Ambient Works (85-92) - Aphex Twin
. Surfing on sine waves - Polygon Window
. drukqs - Aphex Twin
. Double Figure - Plaid
. Dead Cities - Future Sound of London

* Hangable Autobulb EP2 - AFX (it's not an album by I love
it)

In these days I'm enjoying MUSIC HAS RIGHT TO CHILDREN by
BoC, too.

Now help me to choose th Autechre's album, right for me.

btw: I'm seeing who everybody like a different Autechre's
cd, here.

\/\/ooÆ’erAttack!!! from Milan on 2001-12-18 15:33 [#00062153]

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-12-18 16:45 [#00062179]

Incunabula is good... nice and melodic... sounds a bit dated
in a couple places, but overall it's excellent... I don't
know much about Autechre, but I've listened to some of Amber
and Tri Repetae, and LP5, and I think I Amber the best out
of those... I like the more melodic stuff myself...

crayon_kid from the inner reaches of your soul... on 2001-12-18 16:45 [#00062181]

ep7.
out of all their stuff i think it sounds most like a
complete album

Chrispy from UK on 2001-12-18 17:08 [#00062196]

Get Amber Woofdooz. That would best suit your tastes as it
has mine.

EP7... once you love it
Confield

Korben Dallas from www.mp3.com/polcxd on 2001-12-18 22:34 [#00062265]

while I prefer EP7 or LP5 ish era (chichli suite and envane)
- I have gotten "in" to each and every Ae release I own.

So why not start at the start and work your way up -
starting with Incunabula (also highly recommended is the
Basscadet remixes - some very nice tunes).

Advice: Incunabula/Amber

While I highly recommend Tri++ (US edidtion?/special with
Anvil Vapre and Garbage ep's as bonus cD's WELL worth it) or
pretty much anything else mentioned - but perhaps start with
the early stuff???

Dave_k from Canada on 2001-12-18 23:04 [#00062295]

i like "tri repetae"
but to be honest thats the only album I have of his, but it
is a two disc album!

Korben Dallas from www.mp3.com/polcxd on 2001-12-19 00:26 [#00062326]

dave k

unless i stand corrected- that second cd contains those
very 2 ep's mentioned above. Autechre = Booth/Brown = them
:)

Taxiderm on 2001-12-19 00:35 [#00062327]

Tri Repete is one cd
Tri Repete ++ is two cd's. The original, plus the garbage ep
and the anvil vapre ep.

I don't like incunabla :(

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-12-19 02:40 [#00062343]

Incunabula is awesome... Bike, and 444 are amazing!!!

LeMoN from buffalo ny on 2001-12-19 04:36 [#00062368]

Incunabula - Most accessible, melodic, and repetitive of all
their albums. I dont mean that in a bad way, i love it! Not
very representative of what I consider their 'real' style.

Amber - Their darkest and most atmopheric album, not as
melodic as some of these people might make you believe. NOT
a good starting point.

Tri Repetae ++ - Considered by many to be their best album,
and also the album that is their definitive sound. I
personally disagree, but I suppose for most people this is
the place to start. Good middle ground between earlier works
and more complex later works. Very rythmic and structured.

LP5 - Extremely complex beats put over generally sparse
melodies, this is one of my favorites. Some of the songs on
here remind me of Drukqs sort of, just not quite as random
sounding. More mathematical and precise.

EP7 - Very little melody, very much like LP5, only with less
emphasis on melody. The album is mostly beats, very odd ones
as well, very inaccessible and alien.

Confield - Their least accessible, and at the same time my
favorite. Took me a long time to appreciate it, but I love
it oh so much now. I prefer it over Drukqs even. It is very
cold, mechanical, alien, mathematical. I seriously find it
hard to imagine actual humans sitting creating this music,
it is truely stunning. Careful however, this release could
turn you off big time.

\/\/ooÆ’erAttack!!! from Milan on 2001-12-19 09:39 [#00062451]

LeMon: Great work, your description is really clear and
helpful, I recorded it.

Anyway, I see who there's a little bit of confusion about
Autechre's work, there are many different opinions here and
I'm still confused...

Probably I'll buy Amber (I know Chrispy's taste...),
Incunabula or Tri Repetae++... but first I'll try to
download some song... I need to understand better.

WooÆ’er

teapot | xanpha from brisbane on 2001-12-19 11:30 [#00062476]

hmmm...

start with either Cicclisuite or Envane... they are EPs so
you'll probably be able too get them cheaper... not only
that, they are friggin amazing

Netlon Sentinel from yurp on 2001-12-19 13:55 [#00062498]

i agree, envane is probably the best ep out there.

but amber inaccesible? it got me hooked on autechre the
first time i listened to it. good starting point, imho.

but hey

\/\/ooÆ’erAttack!!! from Milan on 2001-12-19 17:54 [#00062578]

I'm a little bit tired of drill'n'bass music, so I hope
you're suggesting to me another kind of music.
I want to buy an Autechre's album but I hope it will be not
drill'n'bass...

WooÆ’er

LeMoN from buffalo ny on 2001-12-19 20:44 [#00062596]

Nope, i dont consider their music drill n bass. It is much
more hard to explain...keep in mind that their style varies
wildly through their career, so not liking one cd does not
mean u will dislike them all.

Oh, and I do consider Amber inaccessible, because IMO it is
much more dense then alot of their music, less catchy, more
ambient and maybe evn intellectual than their earlier
albums. Piezo off that album is one of their top 5 songs,
without a doubt.

Oh, and I find Envane overrated. I'd take the ep Garbage
anyday.

Chiastic Slide is another album of theirs, I didnt mention
it because i have not listened to the entire thing. It
sounds alot like Tri Repetae from what i have heard, very
rhythmic and maybe alittle more experimental, leaning
towards their extreme stages later on.

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-12-19 22:10 [#00062606]

I listened to Amber pretty much straight through today, and
it's awesome... the songs are all great!!!

\/\/ooÆ’erAttack!!! from Milan on 2001-12-20 07:18 [#00062747]

I'll start my Autechre's adevnture with Amber...

Incunabula and tri-repetae++

Monoid on 2001-12-21 01:02 [#00063019]

"Confield" because MELDODIES ARE CHEESY !

iain from scotland on 2001-12-21 01:40 [#00063033]

autechre's kinda weird cos i reckon you need to work through
their albums. I heard incunabula first and loved it but i
don't reckon i could have appreciated something like
confield back then, you need to work through.Fuck they're
awesome.....

Anyone here like Tool?

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-12-21 03:15 [#00063038]

Lateralus is awesome man... I haven't heard anything else by
them though... the drummer is friggin amazing!!!

oh, and yeah Woofer, if you like melody in electronic music,
go with Amber... it's great... that or Incunabula...

Taxi on 2001-12-21 03:38 [#00063054]

Wow... lateralus is the only album by tool that I really
don't like. Everything else of theirs has been top rate
(exept that fucking perfect circle project... but that is
just Maynard)

\/\/ooÆ’erAttack!!! from Milan on 2001-12-21 07:21 [#00063114]

I have Lateralus by Tool, but I need to listen it better...
in this period I'm listening many other new cd, like Plaid,
BoC, etc...
Anyway it seems a good nu-metal's cd.

WooÆ’er

digidogheadlock from under a rock on 2001-12-21 09:11 [#00063119]

i luv old tool, like opiate but the latest album i didn't
really get into...

as for autechre.. the first album and only album i own of
them is Amber and i didn't regret buying it... my fav tracks
off it is Nil and Teartear... i haven't sampled any of thier
other albums yet..

Gonzola from stockholm on 2001-12-21 14:58 [#00063179]

confield and envane

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2001-12-21 15:33 [#00063183]

I'm still in the process of deciding...

\/\/ooÆ’erAttack!!! from Milan on 2001-12-24 16:06 [#00063923]

It's official... Autechre has a new wooÆ’er-fan!!!
Yesterday I bought AMBER... and people, it's awesome.
One of the best cd who I bought this year and it's only my
first Autechre's cd... now I can't wait to buy everything
from them.

The sound is amazing, the melody is incredible, it seems the
apocalypse' day!
Track1,2,3 and 11 are impressive!
I can't stop to listen this album...

In the last month I bought Boards of Canada, Plaid, Future
Sound Of London, but Autechre seems really superiors.

Thanx to everybody who suggested to buy 'AMBER'.

WooÆ’er

LeMoN from ? on 2001-12-24 17:16 [#00063930]

Wow, I am surprised you gave it such a positive respone
based on first few listens...if you like it THAT much, the
other albums will make you ecstatic, for Amber is probably
the groups weakest most maligned album.

Oh, and you didnt mention track 6? That is without a doubt
the best tune on the album. I used to love track 3,
Silverside, but I think that melody line is kinda weak, it
sounds like its trying to go somewhere, but in escence is
goes no where, for it repeats the same short melody over and
over, and its not particularily dramatic either. Nice beat
though. You'll have to excuse me, im going into one of my
rants, I could write pages reviewing each of their albums.

Just dont go thinking this is what all their albums sound
like, because it is NOT. Since it seems you like the
melodies, you should probably get Incunabula next, I
personally think it is a better album then Amber. It has a
better assortment of melodies, and isnt as much of a downer
as Amber can tend to be...not saying there is anything wrong
with that. Either Incunabula, or, if you live in the US, buy
Tri Repeate+++, for a taste of a slightly different,
morebeat orientated Autechre. Work your way up the big
leagues! Glad you like the album buddy, and just keep in
mind, Amber came out before I Care Because You Do...which
sounds better? I personally prefer Autechre over Aphex, but
lately I've been into cold, mechanical music. peace.

Caserol Joe the Chubby on 2001-12-25 06:16 [#00063996]

Work up indeed. Buy Incunabula, and then progress with the
release dates. I think it's the absolute best way to take
in Autechre.

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-12-25 18:18 [#00064022]

I got Chastic Slide for Christmas, and I like it already...

Netlon Sentinel from yurp on 2001-12-25 20:54 [#00064039]

if you work through autechre's work chronologically (like i
did, having missed out when they started) you'll appreciate
every album better, imo. i first got incunabula, then a week
later i bought amber. if incunabula didn't blow me away,
amber sure did. i don't listen to incunabula much anymore,
except those really long songs, they're awesome.

next i got peel sessions 1, but that's not all that
impressive except for drane. tri repetae i think is one of
the least melodical albums by autechre (except track 3). in
that respect it reminds me of confield and peel sessions 2
(check out track 3 off that ep).

ep7 isn't as non melodical as a lot of ppl would like you to
think, imo. granted, there's a lot of abstract stuff, but
also a coupla tracks (eg 6, 10, 11) which are just plain
beautiful. and ep7 also boasts the best first track ever
(not the hidden track), imho.

btw, envane overrated?? it's not like rolling stone gave it
5 stars, or mtv plays it everyday cause they reckon they're
good songs, right? i mean, the only rating it gets is the
rating fans give it, and that's highly personal and
subjective. many people like it, though, i've noticed.

geez i like discussing autechre. don't like the autechre.nu
messageboard-software, though :)

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-12-25 23:19 [#00064066]

I'm loving this album Chiastic Slide though... it's
awesome... and who says Autechre are inaccessible? :)
