-Geogaddi best release in 2002?-

but it's so damn good.
and i've had geogaddi so long, i feel like it's from 2001 or
something. i never think of it as a 2000 release.

i think the poll is pretty shit anyways.

i complained about it, and then had a little flashback about
me scolding a certain someone about complaing about another
poll
heh

how the mighty have fallen

but he also put out 3 other releases (higgins, 237, giant
alien force) and they were looked over.

the only one that i would nominate for best of 2002 would be
higgins. just to be fair, i'll give my opinion on all of the
releases that i've heard:

Geogaddi: It's good, yeah, but when i listen to it, there
are too many tracks that i always skip over.

Gantz Graf: The only real reason i like the song is because
of the video. When you don't see the big mechanical
structure spazzing along to
KKCCHCHCHCKKWHHIRRBBBBLLLBLBTSHBAKLKSTSHBOW.....
DICHSJKGIDHGIGASTSHBOW... etc...
Cap.IV and Dial. are good tracks though imo.

Do You Know Squarepusher: I don't know, i've only had this a
little while, in cd form at least. I only like 3 or so
tracks from the first cd, and the second cd is pretty good,
but i don't really consider it part of a new release since
its basically all pre released tracks (even if it was in the
same package) plus one new track.

Astrobotnia Series: In all honesty, this needs to be divided
into the three albums. These are my favorites (and picks)
for the best of 2002 from what we had, because there is
something really honest that i find in the tracks (except
maybe everyone, which is ironically my favorite).

Just thought i'd throw that out there so you guys don't
think i'm just picking snares because "HE'S SO. DAMN.
HARD!"

Why you killed the topic? Why? :-)

I listened "alien giant force... ... ..." and it's nice but
hard drill'n'bass isn't my fav kind of music.

What the heck?

i like geogaddi because it is So easy to get into, i got it
first time...and because it is so Very dreamy and not dark
at all...why are you saying the opposite?

offline ecnadniarb on 2003-01-15 04:27 [#00514644]

Geogaddi is average, MHTRTC is good. Gantz Graf is good,
Plaid EP is excellent. I am sure some people here just vote
what they perceive to be the "darkest" or "nastiest".

And Vatican Nitez is good although I preferred Cradle of
History.

Gantz Graf and Vatican Nitez took more votes and they're
closing gap.
Gantz has third position, while Vatican N. is 4th, check the
poll.

anyway it got 6 good votes.

Why do people keep bringing MHTRTC into this? It didn't come
out in 2002.

people like certain records depending on how they measure to
their other records.

"this record isn't as good as the last one. i'm disapointed
because of that. so it's not my favotite."

I don't think Geogaddi is harder to get into than
MHTRTC - its just shittier! nah, to me its a little boring.
the melodies don't grab me, it feels like its a cheap copy
of BoC.

MHTRTC sounds "good/nice" but has a heavy, creepy
undercurrent of melancholy and darkness. a creepier record
than the bland Geogaddi.

more End of Story than Zeus's's's's..

Geogaddi obviously... loved it the first time, and loved it
more and more from then on... as Ceri said, I don't think
I'll ever get tired of it...

and it's much MUCH better then MHTRTC imo... in every way...
sound quality, production, melodies, beats, etc, etc...
packaging, whatever... Geogaddi is one of my favorites
EVER!!

dude.

not just because of the 666...

listen to the songs. They are in no way relaxing like
MHTRTC

the only disturbing thing about geogaddi imo was the
children.

BoC = good,
manson and oasis = sucks, and i can't understand BoC given i
listen to them? ;)

(i agree that manson latest stuff sucks though - i barely
listen to mm anymore ^^)

well, no offence uzim, but people who mistake BOC for 'nice
friendly' music often turn out to be fans of industrial
music or some other teenaged angst.

i'm listening to satanstornade right now, i guess it won't
help either! ;P

i'll listen to geogaddi after that, trying to get the
darkness in it... =)
maybe it is about... looking at life (including the horrible
things in it), but with a children's point of view? would
explain for example in "1969", charles manson (and david
koresh - branch davidians but i don't know anything about
them), and/opposed to that "1969 in the sunshine" (one of
the most predictable and IMHO worst lyric lines ever - even
if it has a meaning)?

(and the hidden track, "from one source all things come"...)

i think you'll find that the things that people sometimes
criticize BOC about, mainly 'cheesy' '70s' 'naive'
'predictable (your comment above) elements, are all totally
deliberate. you have to kind of know all their stuff from
the start thru to the latest, then you realise that they're
actually slightly taking the piss, in a clever way.

offline uzim on 2003-01-16 15:34 [#00516785]

is this it?

i think on the one hand, i somewhat get this... (although i
wouldn't call it evil at all, to me it is rather a positive
reaction to the horror in the world - trying to demystify
it, to embrace it as a part of the world instead of focusing
on it and complaining about how horrible and evil it is...
anti-NIN if you want)...

...but on the other hand i can't help thinking it sounds out
of place, and shallow (even if the dark elements are hidden,
that doesn't prevent them from being superficial - just
noticing branch davidians for example, without saying
ANYTHING about it, isn't it shallow? you could pretend that
"it's because we want people to search about it and have
their own opinion, we're just looking at it, having a
child's view", but it's a bit easy...

maybe i'm totally wrong
but i'm searching! *' _ -*

also, i just realized there's an age-difference issue here.
you were born in 1985? i was born in 1970... i had already
lost my virginity, gone to hospital from alcohol, and given

no, with BOC, the more you look into the detail, the more
you see the angles in the material. it's like a fractal,
it's quite cynical and dark when you get into it.

maybe i've been badly influencated then... and am too
influenceable/immature...

everybody was saying "BoC is beautiful and emotional",
etc... so i pictured it was music to feel more than to
think, and i listened to it waiting for feelings, not
brain-music to dissecate.

you win, i guess. ^^
