... you're asking if the general consensus of everyone's opinion on autechre's music is too positive (...too positive for what)... I read negative comments about autechre often (maybe about 1/2 negative and 1/2 positive) such as ones in this thread. Overall the CONSENSUS is that their music is average. So you're asking if ... average... is too high? Too high for what? Maybe you mean to ask each individual whether the consensus is too high or low in praise relative to their own personal rating. If this is the case, I think it's much much much much too low.. but when you take into account the fact that most people are fart knockers, the consensus seems more fitting. |

It's really no coincidence that he said they are inaccessible and uninteresting. It makes sence that those who find their music inaccessible will find in uniteresting as well, since it's actually very interesting if you take the time to proberly access it.... or something. |

but why is it some people (most) cant realize that if they cant personally understand a particular type of music, the music isnt necessarily inaccessible to everyone. same thing if some artist's music doesnt interest you, it doesnt mean that it's uninteresting. i dont get how people seem to believe that their own opinions are facts. |

autechre arent overrated at all end of story, i like autechre more than aphex i think(which i do like a lot too) but just because others like it mean you have to. it could be that since you see others on this board like it that your missing something but you could also just not like it as it is. you could try listening to more of their releases to see, its definately a style thats dfferent than most idm, its harder to get into but I think youll appreciate it more once you get used to their style. thats my thoughts. |

i think autechre is really really really bad. so anyone who thinks they're average is really really really over rating them. i mean i'm sure i 'get' their music... but their approach to musi cis just stupid and a waste of music listening time.. they do too much to acomplish so little. and that 'too much' distracts the listener in what's really important, so, some listeners, see that 'too much' and think it's genius.... well it's not, it's just waste. |

0. I was an AFX-only guy. 1. almost (almost!) EVERYONE progressing from young IDM stages goes through this 'Ae's overrated' phase. I were like you some time ago. I just listened and thought: what tha crap, man?! I can throw a pile o'samples into a random mixup, and then half-quantize it and put some uncatchable lead under it all, it'd be no different... Then I made myself listen to Ae through about 3 months, forcing evolution. And finally... One day I realized: "this music is something God gave to us to compensate the fact life is shit" (c). Give Ae some listens after a month or two, I tell you, evolution is imminent. And seeing the incomprehensible beauty of some of their records, you'll have no choice but to agree with my theory :) PS they ARE higher than RDJ. He's kidding around, and they... I don't know. Their music is so inhuman. Poor Sean and Rob, they must be from some other place. |

i think youve got a real good point there, but maybe a little too generalized. but that's why i stop arguing with anti-ae people, cause most of em do start to enjoy their music in the end. this situation isnt unique to ae either, and this is why i stop saying 'this music is crap, overrated' or whatever stupid categorization people make and atrribute it to music (which makes no sense imo), because one day you finally realize either (a) you do enjoy the music now and see you were an ignorant fool some while back or (b) it's just not music that suits your taste, and so fuckin what. anyhow, a fact remains, god is 2 seperate people collaborating together with the music skills. named ae. |

I don't think AE suck, but I do think AFX is better. But aside from that, I'm gonna have to agree with Frag. If someone has said "Nothing is better than AE" then they need to be more open minded. I'm not even going to say AFX is better anymore, I just enjoy his music more than AE's... |

I think it all clicked when I listened to the RDJ album and heard all those ZX Spectrum samples. These guys are trying to write programs for the brain. Sometimes I listen to Autechre and think it is sad obscurist shit and sometimes I listen to it and these ideas come into my mind. Are autechre programming me? |
