This is a question for those who know my music and my
recent endevours of sending out demos...so finally I am in a
position to start sending these things out..I have enough of
a budget to send out 4..the three I have decided on so far
are

Schematic
Tigerbeat6
Planet mu

now for the fourth I have a bit of a dilema..of the three
labels I mention in the title of the thread which one is my
music most suited to..so i can fire off a demo to em..

please help..this is the last stumbling block..
cheers

I haven't heard your music either....but would either City
Centre Offices, Worm Interface, or deFocus be a possible
label to try?

maybe try zod records flea?

they have some pretty experimental stuff

there was one label though that mainly released minidisc
albums.... forgot the name tough.... had some experimental
math beat stuff....

pretty neat label, Ill see if I can find the link.

you gotta try realistically if you have a tight budget, so
far you are shooting for pretty big labels. i would send to
smaller labels and try and build some sort of a relationship
with them, your chances are higher, and from their you will
have recognition and support and be able to shoot for more
well known labels. just my two cents.

hell yes, merk is the shit, thats one of the labels that my
group is trying the hardest to get on. we know adam johnson
personally, and have chatted with a few of the guys from
merk. soon to be sending out the demo (although they
already have one from adam johnson)......

I'd not bother sending one to Warp. Those guys will get
thousands of demos a week and seem to prefer going for the
outstanding figures of the smaller labels, those that will
sell for sure. I'd suggest replacing Warp with another label
in your list depending if you feel your music would be
suited to that label.

I'm no fucking expert tho. At the end of the day I'm still
sat here board to hell at work with my only pleasure being
to buy the music. :/

Yes, I agree with you re: warp. I think it's cheaper & makes
more business sense for them to poach artists from smaller
labels.

But for the cost of a CD or Minidisc I would say it is worth
the risk. Particularly as Flea is one of the most talented
artists I have heard on the board. Almosts makes me want to
start up my own label :)

imo, your sound wouldnt fit at all on skam. id say warp,
but they rarely sign new artists, they sign already
established artists on other labels as if they dont take
risks anymore. this would leave rephlex, the label im less
familiar with...

but good choice trying schematic. good luck!

It seems ludicrous that you are limited to one more demo
because you can't scrounge up a bit of money unless you're a
hobo or something. I can think of 2 possible reasons you'd
want to be on a label: 1) to sell your records and make
money 2) to have a realease among your musical heros

1) you can try cdbaby.com instead- much less people will
take a look without the promotion that goes along with being
on a label though
2) you can actually hobnob with these people by email.
they're just normal people,... almost. I doubt autechre
would just respond to a fan email though. It's
understandable since 1) they might be too popular to be able
to bother with that without sacrificing their other
interests 2) since they are popluar, they have to watch what
they say since memes, which can be annoying and unfriendly,
can be spread easily. Otto will probably answer you though.
He has his own website now www.ottovonschirach.com and he
has some sort of a remix section or something.

Thanks for all the great advice guys..but there has been
some um developments since I started this thread..I went to
the post office and posted a copy and I was using the thin
plastic case..like the onessome of the CD-R comes in..on
account of that the postagetotaled to half the amount I
wasoriginally quoted and since I had already budgeted out
the money thatmeans thatI can send out twice as many demos
if I keep using the thin sleeves..so I am like..wheee..and
will be sending demos all of these three and some more even
:)

BTW..I am not an egotistical big head..and know that my
chances at places like Warp are slim to none...and I
mentioned my reservations about sending them demos as
such..but the excellent, encouraging and supposrtive bunch
you are here(wMw,qrter, Mickey, Zeus, Clic, to name but a
few) encouraged me to throw caution to the wind and send
demos out to em anyway..so there..as long as that is
clarified...me = no delusional big head..

thanks again:)
