does your family like idm??

i foundit hard to believe when, about 6 months ago, my dad
actually asked me to burn him a cd with a bunch of the more
laid back stuff i'd been listening to. most of the stuff
he'd heard was the first aphex twin i'd ever heard (4,
mookid, etc.) and a little bit of BoC. since then, i've
made him 4 more cd's, and am working on the next 2. the
rest of my family listens to it too :O

it just surprised me a bit. does your family put up with
this music?

all the time (see is 11) and I burn her some hard to find
"IDM" stuff and she really digs it.

None of my family have ears. They listen through vibrations
picked up through their kidneys.

my parents tolerate it at best. Dad doesn't mind it, mom
won't have any of that noise played about the house :)

My mother likes the softer stuff of idm, like some aphex
twin and plaid...

My father tollerates most of it...he only likes the jazzy
side of squarepusher...

I don't really show it to them because i don't care for
half-wit comments.

The only thing I recollect was that I had Polynomial-C on
and my brother came in and said it wasn't bad...but he also
said Fingerbib sounded like "eighties movie credits" or
something stupid like that.

He likes Bon Jovi, by the way.

one of my brothers likes it
my mom says it gives her strange nightmares that usually
include me flying around in a little girls body around her
head with that 'strange music' playing
and all the rest of my family can't stand it

i don't know..my cat (shown on my avatar) seems to dig nine
inch nails a bundle. she ALWAYS rubs up against the speaker
or lies down in front of it and purrs whenever nin's
playing...but other than that she usually puts her ears
back

i think it's pretty cool, but i've been trying to get her
into afx..she's not too fond of the sudden loud noises.

none of my family like the music I listen to. my dad likes
classical and some jazz, and some of those 40's crooners. My
mum has slightly better taste with 60's stuff and classical
and she'll occasionally say that she likes something I've
got playing when she visits. My youngest brother is into
classical mostly and my other brother likes Meat Loaf, the
soundtrack to Dirty Dancing and music performed by Al Jolson
(believe it or not).
I played my family 'Pictures of Matchstick Men' by Status
Quo, 'Lost In Fog' by Disco Inferno and 'Next Heap With' by
Aphex, and they hated all of them. "It's not real music is
it" they state. bah.

my father always forced me to listen all this prog rock and
now my fiance does the same.

but my mum liked stuff like goa trance when i played to her.
i don't remember her commenting about idm; only thing she
said was that icct hedral is evil

well everyone around me (and especially in this area) don't
like it if it's not ROCK, say..led zeppelin, soad..whatever,
if they can't picture it, then it's not real music
they say it's not real and it sucks.

also, they tell me that since i don't play an instrument, i
have horrible taste in music (everyone around me plays
guitar mostly) and the drum machines..boy do they hate
those
they say there's no talent, too

little do their pea brains know

My dad doesn't mind Boards of Canada or the Drukqs Piano
pieces. My brother likes a lot of Aphex Twin and N.O.W. as
well as some BoC. My mum tolerates most of it (apart from
"noise") although she doesn't actually like any of
it.

Mine are 'into' it or anything but they don't mind most of
the idm I play. They find SAW2 depressing which is pure
blasphemy but sometimes I make the odd break-though -
Orbital's Brown album was a hit due to similarities with
Reich (We're all big Reich fans) and once my mom walking
while Orbus Terrarum (The Orb) was playing and asked 'what's
this ? It's really nice'. But then again they describe
autechre as the 'sounds of an old washing machine giving up
the ghost' !!! So by and large they're into the psychadelic
or more ambienty side of idm.

fuck he's an asshole.....i think that who doesn't understand

likes the older works from afx like flpahead, didgeridoo.
she's very into goa stuff..

yeah
my mum is really polite about it, but not really into it.

my sister likes the kind of breakbeat stuff and she like
some of my blippy stuff. ("oh my god that song is sooo
CUTE!!! burn it for me!")

my dad is real open minded
he loves squarepusher (barring his recent glitchyish
stuff).

He always has cds of my stuff in the car.

autechre aesthetically... she REALLY likes stuff like daft

hey at least one of your family members seems to be
accepting it.
my mom used to let me play what i want in car, but i think
she always did and now shes happier with some decent idm,
than with public enemy or other sampling maniac hip hop,
which i heard ages ago (and still enjoy)

my cousins never liked it. they are 12 now and hate
everything i play, they just can listen to charts and
chart-techno, strange.. i think
