I think those are dumb. Not dumb as in inable to speak
though. In ordinary spoken English, a sentence such as He is
dumb will be interpreted to mean “He is stupid” rather
than “He lacks the power of speech.” “Lacking the
power of speech” is, however, the original sense of the
word, but it has been eclipsed by the meaning “stupid.”
For this change in meaning, it appears that the Germans are
responsible. German has a similar and related word dumm that
means “stupid,” and over time, as a result of the waves
of German immigrants to the United States, it has come to
influence the meaning of English dumb.

"I said squares. I keep seeing squares. For two weeks I
fussy cut one hundred and eighty squares with pictures in
them. I just finished the last of them. I told you all that.
Done."

"Ah," I said, pretending to understand. "You've been cutting
squares."

"You need a hearing aid," she said.

"Lemonade?" I asked. "Do you want some lemonade?"

"I cut out one hundred eighty four-and-a -half-inch squares.
You're going deaf and I've already gone square crazy."

"This has something to do with the fussy cuts, doesn't it?"
I asked, suddenly remembering that she had been mentioning
them to me all week.

i haven't the slightest idea what wMw is trying to say, but
I didn't particulary enjoy either of those comics.

Maybe I need to see more or something?

Achewood: either it hits you a certain way or it doesn't. I
dig it. My cow orker says "Huh. Not for me".

I think it has something to do with my vast capacity for
utter silliness. I don't expect things to make sense really.
But Achewood has its own kind of sense.

All the silly dialogue is a kind of character development,
and it's very consistent. When I go back and read the
earliest ones Philippe's words make more sense in light of
how he's developed.

I love how at first Roast Beef is almost not there, and now
he's central and one of the most interesting ones. I love
the way his word bubbles are in a smaller font with no caps
or punctuation.

there's also a story behind it...
his best friend ran away to the moon so phillippe was trying
to cheer him up

he eventually came back cause they were watching porn, and
this girl had "ruuuuuuuuude titties!"

"well exactly how rude are we talking here ray"
"the rudest!"

I don't get it. I guess I prefer the more direct approach,
like in Red Meat.
