A friend met Mr Aphex himself!

offline Word from Sweden on 2002-12-11 13:22 [#00477783]
Points: 11 Status: Lurker

A friend of mine met Mr Aphex on a airport a couple of
years ago. When he was sure it was him he started to walk up
to him. But he didn't get the chans to say hello to him.
Before he could say anything Richard turned around and sed
"what a fuck are you looking at."

I dont understand why people gave hexagonaldope such a hard
time...... I mean so what if she was joking about being
signed to rephlex... big deal

People took it personally for some odd reason.

And Kara on the other hand was pretty trollish. But who
knows for sure if she knew richard or not.......

But I still thought they brought a little something to this
place.... weather it was good or bad.

To be honest I don't see what the big deal is whether u do
or don't meet Aphex Twin. He's not that exciting he's just
an ordinary bloke like everybody else.

If you're in London and generally go out and about u see all
these people. Its not that interesting. And they sure as
hell aren't interested in u, which is fine, they're more
than likely to be arrogant. I think u demean yourself going
up to these people like some loser salvating over them. I
mean they're just gonna think your a loser I wouldn't even
embarass myself.

I totally agree with what promo said.

I think people on this message board think that rdj,
squarepusher, µ-zig or whathave you... idolize them so much
and forget that artists can get mad, they have problems,
they have feeling too, they are not robots, they are not
gods either, just people like you and me who have artistic
creativity and make good tunes.

If someone was looking at me all wierd I would probubly tell
him off as well.

If I by chance ever come across richard somewhere I would
just come up and say that I really like his music, and the
artists on his label. And that would be it.

after a polite hello i'd start asking him all these
trainspotter questions, it's not like i give a fuck what he
thinks about me, i just want some stuff answered. best way
to deal with that would be for him to just tell me to fuck
off. otherwise i'm going for the jugular.

People who come up to people like Aphex in the street and
start speaking to them, they'll just think you some
degenerate loser and will have no respect for you. Your
completely wasting you time. I just don't understand why
people would want to embarrass themselves and be so naive.
You only feel like shit afterwards.

I like music by people like Aphex etc but as people they're
not that interesting. They speak in broken English and can
hardly string a decent sentence together. Besides you just
totally demean yourself by going up to someone in the street
and even saying hi and stuff. He'll just think 'who the fuck
is this nobody why am I speaking to him/her'.

Personally I'd be as sweet as pie if someone came up to me
because I think it costs nothing to be pleasant. I suppose
after a while it would become very tedious. Of course the
flip side is you can say they're public domain figures so
therefore people have a right to 'harrass them'. Bottomline
is if you know the guy personally then of course you'll
speak to him, if you don't then don't.

I go up and talk to people I dont know all the time, its
called being friendly. You should try it promo. Whats wrong
with going to someone you dont know and having a chat? And
hey you might even make a new friend that you could invite
over for some tea or a beer. You just have to approach the
person in a pleasant way, not like staring at him or
whatever... find a common interest and go from there. Its
easy as pie. Sure some people can be busy, or mean or
whatever... but for the most part people are good hearted
and are up for a little conversation.

I agree. I met a really nice guy in the street who was
wearing a Vangelis T-shirt (yes, I am a fan hehe) and I felt
a bit weird, but I just started talking to him, found out
his msn adress and didn't embarass myself. Amazingly.

CS2x,

Yeah er I think talking to a nobody (no offence) is a little
different. Going up to someone like Aphex Twin or whatever
is a different kettle of fish. Anyway do it what do I care
and see what reaction you get.

I know this is an AFX/IDM board. but some people here refer
to RDJ/AFX as if he is a god indeed (read that somewhere in
this thread I believe...)
The only thing I miss here is referring to RDJ as Him (yes
with a capital)
Another thread about AFX being narsississstic:
How would you live with fame and stuff?
Getting hunted down by fans or just standing up to them when
they get annoying and tell em to f**k off?

offline CS2x from London (United Kingdom) on 2002-12-11 16:22 [#00477961]
Points: 5079 Status: Lurker

Yeah, i was refering to the point made that talking to
strangers is good, as you can meet cool people.

I agree Promo-Aphex would probably tell most ppl to fuck
off-but it would still be tempting to ask him stuff about
his music, no?

surprising

CS2x,

It maybe tempting but you have let logic set in. These
people have egos or maybe they don't. What I do know is its
more than likely they wont appreciate you coming up to them
on the street. Your not on their agenda, they don't know and
to be honest they've probably had the same scenario painted
out for them a million times. Again as I said before the
only way to find is to do it, maybe you catch him at a
really high moment. Good luck.

I think richie would be more perceptive if you went up to
him and said, "I like your record label" as apposed to "I
like your music" because

- his own music is something close to him and personal, and
by talking about it, he is dealing with the consequences of
his own actions.
- the music on his label is stuff that "he likes", and he'd
probably have no qualms about talking about his favourite
artists

To assume, is to running a race before the gun fires.

"I think talking to a nobody (no offence) is a little
different"

why does it have to be any different? Because it doesnt have
to be, and it shouldnt be, we are all human, he is human, we
eat, sleep, pay taxes, work....

He is by no means a superstar like J-lo or Britney
Spears....

So I dont think it would be that different at all really.

What it comes down to is what kind of person he is, because
even some of the biggest people in the entertainment
industry take the time to talk to a fans, and some are just
egomaniac's and arseholes. I think its as simple as that
really.

Mickey Mouse,

As I've said before in the previous posts if you come across
him in the street and you want to speak to him, do it and
then you can see what reaction you get.

Some people can never be told. Its like the time my sister
wanted to know what the hot plate in the curry house was, so
my Dad said 'why don't you find out'. She got blisters and
burned her fingers but she still found out.

hahaha, I just dont like when people are like..... all
artists and entertainers are rude to their fans. Because
most are not. I mean thats where their income comes from. My
dad is a photographer and took a few shots of Pierce Brosnen
(james bond) last year for people magizine and said he was
really friendly and down to earth. I have met some
celebrities and most seem very nice also.

thats what I am saying.

Most people are not egomaniacs and people shouldnt be afaid
to go up to people they dont know and start a little
conversation...

I swear, fear is just eating the world today, sad really.
People are afaid of their own piss now adays.

promo.....i dunno if it's you or your cat thats so eloquent,
but i have to agree.

if i saw richard i'd prolly think....oh that dood looks
famil.....then i'd walk on my merry way. i like his music,
but i wouldn't assume he would talk to me, and i don't have
anything to ask him, i believe in personal privacy even for
'celebrities.'

that said, if i were at a show, and was invited backstage
(it's happened before) i would prolly say hi, and let
him/her know i enjoyed the show and prolly say something
(hopefully witty) and then go on my merry way.

when i was backstage (at another show) i just found all the
groupie girls gawking to be really sad, it's like so typical
that i think it must be boring to them. on the other hand,
people that are polite and friendly get asked to play games,
get questions answered, and invited to parties.....ehhehe

i think celebs can just tell from some peoples actions how
to react with some people. i would prefer a NICE person, not
a FAN......know what i mean

*goes on my merry way* =0)
