jonesy,
Totally agree with you. Just a bunch of loony lefty cliches. People who take drugs - it tells me a lot about them as people. I know they are weak and probably unreliable etc etc, so I wouldn't want to associate with them. Why the hell would I want to associate with some druggies unless I want to be branded a druggy to. Talk about dumb.

my 2 cents...
Drugs are good if you wanna do them. Yep, maybe they sap motivation sometimes, and maybe people that take them regularly are sometimes unreliable. But, in my experience, those that are willing to experiment with their mind occasionally are usually a FUCK LOAD more interesting than those that think its for losers. - what the fuck is a loser anyway? - does that mean I'm a loser? Oh no!
On Bill Hicks (the real one) - fucking wicked! Hes not God or anything, but he was a smart and funny geeza, and I think he probably did speak his own mind, and not just "a load of stuff
liberal lefties wanted to hear."-jonesy
I wonder if any of you drug haters drink booze?

I totally agree luckyP.
what's wrong with being a liberal anyway? I think a few people round here need to get their heads out of their arses.
Intelligent use of drugs is fine. If people know the dangers and are aware of the ways in which the various substances act on their metabolism then it's fine. It's their choice and as long as they aren't trying to we should respect that.
Some of the effects of psycadelics (mushrooms and cacti) sound pretty far out! The only reason I myself stay clear is because of the risk of fucking my mind up, of altering my chemistry permanently!
The major problems caused by drugs stem from the fact that most of them are illegal. This has absolutely nothing to do with the substances. Drug related crimes and so on are brought on due to legislation not the drugs themselves.
promo, sounds like you had some kind of bad drug-related experience or something.

I used to cain it VERY hard, on various stimulants... e's, coke,speed... blah blah blah... and now I don't. I'll still have a line on special occasions, and I still smoke several phat spliffs everyday, but the fact that I spent a period of my life (several years) fucked, doesn't seem to have affected my life in a negative way.
I used to want to be a pilot in the RAF... thank fuck I started smoking weed!! I could have ended up bombing people n stuff... FUCK THAT!

TonyFish,
I have never taken any drugs in my life. Never had a loved one take any drugs. So no I have never had a bad experience with drugs.
Personally I don't give a crap what people do, if people want to fuck themselves up on drugs, its their life. Saves me a lot of hassle having to deal with them in the first place. I just wouldn't want to associate or know someone who was involved in drugs. You see you have choices in life and sometimes you have to have the strength of character to make the right choice, most don't but for those who do I have the upmost respect.

i'd have to agree, there are choices to be made, and it takes some maturity to make the best one. but it's not always as simple as choice1=good choice2=bad. that is not how life works. certainly in some situations it's like that, but only some. if you don't mind a little wine, why do you mind a little cannabis? obviously you don't appreciate heavy drug culture so you're not going to be hanging out with an all day every day blunt toker, but when you say you won't associate with anyone who touches drugs you're being simple and asshhole. you f*cking drink! alcohol is a drug!

Nor have I but that ain't the point.. Ok so let's say if a loved one started taking drugs and was reeeaally into it and it gave him/her great pleasure, permiting them to see things from a different angle etc.. If this wasn't just a 'phase' what would you do ? Cease to 'associate' with them. What if this were your best friend and you'd only just found out about his/her fascination with kinky psychedics! hmm ?

If you're not on drugs though people who are can be very annoying- it's just like people who are drunk when you're sober. Can be very frustrating. I don't have a problem when people are on a night out, but calling over a mates house mid morning when you've arranged to go and do something with them only to find them bombed out of their heads when you arrive and they just want to stay in is annoying. I certainly agree that people who cane it all the time tend to be quite unreliable, if not through laziness then through memory loss. Forgetting to do things etc.
I also don't buy into this idea that the human race would survive and we'd all love each other if we were mashed on acid and special K all the time. If the whole populance were doing hard drugs all the time the country would grind to a halt.
Well, apart from the music & TV industries ;)

Maybe I/we are being pedantic, but you haven't said why you loath those that take drugs (me) so much that you don't want to associate with them.
Does that include conversations on message boards? I supposes that ok, cos you don't have to breath the same drug filled air as us. Your sweeping dimissal of all drug users amounts to bigotry, and is disturbingly offensive, especially when you don't say why you have these opinions.

jupitah,
To answer your question.
"what if you had four one evening? would you continuee to associate with yourself?". Your just getting into semantics and nit picking. I don't think their is an occassion when I have had four glasses of wine, so its not something I need to think about.
TonyFish,
If it was a loved one, I would of course be extremely dissapointed but then I would love them so I would not reject them. I would try and help them if I could because I love them. No I would never reject anyone I loved like a sister or a brother but other people thats different.

Not having a crack (pun intended) at drug users- lots of famous painters/writers and even scientists have been alcoholics and had opium addictions etc. Besides, there would be no Hunter S. Thompson or Irvine Welsh without them...
I just don't think the world would work if the majority of the populance took them all the time. Maybe do what ancient cultures did and have the whole populance get mashed on a particular day and have a holiday for a few days afterwards ;)

I don't think anyone here would claim that drugs don't affect behaviour, and that sometimes that behaviour can be negative for the user, and those around them.
But, that is not an argument for not taking any drugs ever. It just calls for drug users to be more considerate to those around them, and more aware of the affect drugs have on them.

He he, morphine is good fun though :P
Tonyfish: I agree, but I think a lot more people would start taking them if there wasn't prohibition. Also as they would be more "pure" more people would start taking them. I know one of the things that puts me off drugs is not knowing what exactly is in it, the exact does and where its been. Mind you, they'd probably be so heavily taxed and weakened in dose that drug culture would die out...
Imagine if nightclubs sold really good quality, legal pills at the bar though and had st. johns ambulance crews on standby- I can see within a few years drug users would be in the majority rather than the minority.
As I've already said- I don't have a problem with people who do drugs and I certainly wouldn't refuse to be mates with someone etc. because they did.

Yes, the govt. would argue that 200%+ taxes on them were justified as the money would (allegedly) need to be spent on: rehab (people would still want it ;) ), more NHS staff to deal with increased number of ODs (lots of new users = lots of ODing), psychological counselling for long term users who've fried their brains, more police to combat drug related crime (even though crime would probably drop...)
Bet it'd go on more police and wars though :P

ceri, i completely agree with you. people who are bomed in the mornings and unreliable are not fun to be around, but they are not all drug users. if somebody is using so much that they have to cancel plans i'd say they abuse. i smoke cannabis and at certain times of the year i eat mushrooms, but nobody i associate with would tell you that i'm unreliable. of my friends who smoke or have other habits, they don't have the loser user quality that you're talking about and that promo seems to think defines all drug users. and does anyone really believe drugs are the answer to humanity's problems? i know that for some, myself included, certain experiences have provided important understandings of life, but that has everything to do with the person and not the drugs.

LuckyPsycho,
How do you know I haven't had any experience with Drug users?
Of course I've known drug users in the past. Often its something that you find out subsequently. Yeah back then I didn't not associate with them, truth is I still thought they were weak but I certainly didn't go out of my way to be around them all the time. Most drug users tend to be of liberal mind, so they tended to have liberal views which to a lesser or greater extent squared up with some of the views I had. So I probably tolerated them more in the past. The truth is I don't really think about it.
