that definition is much better. if ants evolved to be more
intelligent, they could make weird art for antennae
interpretation.

Art = Love + Hate * Expression / Desire

sorry, I accidently said "love" instead of "hate" and "sad"
instead of "bad". sorry for the mixup.

One of the major stumbling blocks in Computer Art is, as the
technical problems are often so immense to obtain a
particular result, the temptation is to put up any pretty
picture that results as Computer Art. Irrespective of how
technically sophisticated a picture is, it doesn't at some
point of polishing became Art. It is disappointing to note
that paradoxically as the interfaces have become more
accessible and the software has become more flash, the
artistic value of so-called pieces of computer art have
receded at a horrifying rate.

Recommendation: destroy all art schools.

Art should be about raw expression of emotion, unimpeded by
technique and form.

:P

I disagree

But maybe art is one of the things that separates us from
the other animals? Do any other creatures "create" for
aesthetics rather than function?

I want 1000 words on my desk by monday. Take a photographer.
All expenses paid.

No i think there should be all kinds of art.
Stuff that is made with extremely good technique blows my
mind , paintings that looks like a photography when you look
from a distance but when you look closely the brush strokes
are very simple.
Art Scools ? it all depends on the teachers i think , i had
crappy ones.
I like the idea of artists taking on dissiples instead ,
like the norwegian master painter Odd Sörling (i think
thats his name?) , REALLY teaching and passing on techniques
and knowledge for the next to make his own and develop.

Paintings that look like photos would annoy me so much. I
just don't like paintings of *things*.

To *me*, that's not art. It's just skill with a brush,
there's no soul to it.

yes some other animals DO make art!

theres a chimp (or orangutang, im not sure) at the Toronto
zoo who paints!

once he decides that hes done one of his paintings, he'll
set it aside as finished and wont touch it anymore!

they're... ahem.. pretty abstract i guess, but pretty cool
considering a chimp/orangutang made them.

the zoo has sold a bunch of them for fundraising
