You don't have to buy Zidane, Figo, Roberto Carlos, Ronaldo (Raul was a youth-product?) to be the best club team in the world.

but although ajax didnt spend much money those players became immediately the best in the world:
kluivert, finidi, overmars, frank and ronald de boer, seedorf. davids...
they are all really expensive
sometimes you have to buy, some others you have them at home
example: real madrid 10 years ago:
butragueño, michel, sanchis, martin vazquez, gordillo, camacho, maceda... they won 5 spanish leagues in a row and two uefa cups... they where all spanish and most of them from madrid
its clear that some teams always buy and some others always sell

yeah most of the players you mention left ajax within 3 years (maximum) after they won the champions league... seedorf had left before that, if i remember correctly...
it's true, ajax and many other northern european teams serve as schools for talent which are then sold. spanish superstars hardly ever leave their country
btw, which real madrid do you prefer (if any): the team from 10 years ago with all the spaniards or the team right now with the many foreign superstars?
