do you everr think about just how powerrless you arre and just how powerrful the people in charrge arre?
i get rreally mad and sometimes rreally deprressed that i have to sit back underr the laws of the countrry. i know we can't have no rrule BUT nowadays the law is too obtrrusive.
what do you think? do u think it is time the goverrnments laid off a bit?
(not that it will everr happen, and now with all this terrrrorrism...)

not sure about that... first, are we all that bright here? i do and say very stupid things sometimes... besides, i have a constant lack of attention, and i'm lazy...
if there wasn't any system, i don't think i would work _ and i think many people, despite their brightness maybe, wouldn't work anymore... would be a big mess...

some bright people don't really work either. a certain richard d. james, for example.
and would they (the bright people) accept to do all the hard repetitive manual works?
i may be numb, but without any organization, i highly doubt it would work...

"harm none, do what thou wilt" should be standard policy for governments. some laws should be kept though, like traffic laws.

well..you have to remember.. the people running things are bright..they wouldnt be in that position otherwise... err.. the president doesnt count...
but its not an issue of intelligence.. more of intentions.. the people who pursue careers in politics and coporate business arent exactly doing it for the good of mankind...
i'd say about 99.9% of them are in it for the power alone.. and in order to keep that power secure.. they have to keep you in line with more rules..
the majority of people accept these rules because they're convinced its for their own good.. most people are more than willing to give up a little freedom for more security
and if you arent...well, you're out of luck i guess

still, we're very lucky compared to people in poor countries, with war, hunger, grievous diseases incurable because of lack of money, etc. i agree with that.
(knowing that i'm more lucky than most other people doesn't make me happy in any way though. it'd just make me feel more sad for the other people.
but i have difficulty to realize that... seeing famine, diseases, poverty, etc. every day on tv make some of us feel saturated, and desensibilized...)

Just live with the rules and try to bend them, use them in your advance where ever possible I'd say.
Talking about porn... Porn on TV should be only shown deep in the night, while from 8 PM we can happily watch people shooting at eachother, on the news or just as a movie.

Ah, the duality of man. Whilst we hate the shackles of conformity and law and order, at the same time we crave the freedoms it gives us.
Jonesy: Yes, in financial terms, but in actual quality of life they've never been closer. Even the "poor" can often afford cars, wine, holidays and general luxeries. It's just that richer people have a) ones of a better quality and b) more of them.
Not saying that's right, just that the poor now are better of in terms of lifestyle than the rich even 200 years ago. More exotic foods available- bette rhealthcare, better travel etc.

ok, on these points i totally agree with you.
people criticize the system, but are still taking profit from it... it's hypocritical.
maybe some of them would only like to fix the absurdities in the system though, absurdities from which they don't take profit at all.
and about much more grievous problems, priorities, solidarity and stuff... if we would stop producing weapons during a short time, or if we stopped buying perfume during one year, etc. the problem of world famine could be solved, as they say...
but no one will ever do it. sad. =(

on the other hand...
if these people don't really stand a chance to beat the system they're criticizing, there's no point in not taking profit of it, since it won't make the situation any "worse"...

i wonder how things could be different if some of us spent half the time rating computer tracks and tried their hands at 'governing'.
-'poor people' do not have more now, we simply have a different rating system.
-there are more poor people in the world, because there are too many people for each to support themselves
-the geographic scale technology encompasses is at odds with humans' communal abilities
-organized governments have an advantage in supplying necessities and more
-we will become more and more a police state because society expects more and more from the government, and is more and more demoralised about the prospects of having 'a say'.
- communism sounds nice, but doesn't work at large scales - democracy makes sence, but increasingly has problems at large scales
- god sounds nice, but i'll never know for sure
if you feel too controlled, try living somewhere else. you might not have your DSL hookup, or police protection when you are brutally mutilated, or your chance at lotto.
but it will probably be there soon.
now get back to work!
