ENGLAND -- Top electronica artists have now come in with the results to an online poll that was posted 4 months ago on the internet asking readers about the upcoming name change IDM (Intelligent Dance Music) should have. All were happy with the result and the coined phrase should now be used instead of IDM. Or they will beat you.
"I was very pleased with the results," Said Richard Devine. "I was thinking something along the lines of Advanced Thinking Music but this name just blows everything away!"
Agreeing with the name change, Tom Jenkinson (Squarepusher)responded, "Totally! This new name will set the standard and get things right back on track. Now people who listen to country music or rock will instantly know what kind of music we make. No denying it now!"
Though many names were up in the air the many artists finally came down with the one that they thought suited this type of music.
"We finally figured that Logistically Coherent Contemplation Brainwork Electronica suited just fine. It says everything we wanted it say." Said Rob Brown of the Autechre duo.
"Totally Rob." Sean Booth, the other end of Autechre said with a smile to Rob.
Richard D. James later replied to this in a recent magazine stating "Ykyss baesc9. Kelzxii eispq baold gweiv wivlh. Wdiv diepqlz qpfpivv 49dl. If09 siv9la doiv. Iv9, s9l3!"
The new name will debut on a new double cd featuring new material by these artists and more called Coherent Logic. It will be out in stores around spring next year.

Yep, most of my non-electronic music friends refer to all of "this sort of music" as Techno. I played them some Adult and said, this is techno, I then played them some Pusher and said, this isn't. They reckonened they both sounded the same. Phillestines, eh?

All Rephlex stuff is "braindance" All planetmu/warp/skam/schematic and similar stuff is electronica.... but to me, is, braindance too but covers electro, breakbeat, dnb, drill n b and whatever and excludes techno and house which move my feat but not my brain..

yeah but techno is used a lot in the states - and people mean that trance and house are sometimes in that genre - neither of which would i ever listen to
i also find it weird to put autechre and squarepusher in the same genre
"experimental" is my coin of choice - cause we's all just experimentin

braindance hit the nail on the head
you can dance to it OR listen to it like a nice rock n roll song with emotions, timing, highs and lows... OR both simulataneouly like i do so that one reaches a state above that of rock n roll and dance and "E" combined..... lushness
Remember "File under braindance"

I call it "Experimental Electronic Music"
sometimes ill say IDM, but I am reluctant, cause then I have to explain what it means. But if people honestly want to know, then Ill use the term and explain why its called that etc.
But never ever would I call my music techno. Its gives a totally wrong impression.

I hate all this categorisation. I mean at what point does DM become IDM? is there an exact line? Is acid house unintelligent? And "Braindance"? That was surely a pisstake term in the first place.
It's all so anal. Just get over it. It's music. Sorry - another rant.

how is it experimental to the people who are new to it? to be experimental the music had to actually be the result of an experiment. most idm is just instrumental music played on electronic instruments. just cos it "sounds different" doesn't make it experimental. by that logic, afrobeat and polka are experimental.

I don't mind people calling it "techno," especially since here in the states it was never popular, so that's what people call all electronic music that's not hip hop. most people just aren't familiar with the names of all the other genres and styles. if some one asks what kind of music vsnares is, for example, I'll call it "electronic," which is a bit like calling bebop "acoustic" music.
