TOP RELEASES OF 2002!!!!!!!!

offline CORTEX from Canada on 2002-11-07 15:42 [#00432256]
Points: 3346 Status: Regular

so the year is coming to an end pretty soon and i thought
it'd be a good idea for everyone to make a list (top3, top5,
top10 or whatever) of their favorite releases so far in
2002.

here's my top10 (some of them are from late 2001, but i
consider them as a part of 2002 since i bought them this
year).

1- Bola - Fyuti
2- Boards of Canada - Geogaddi
3- Autechre - Gantz Graf
4- Antipop Consortium - Arrythmia
5- Chris de Luca and Peabird - Deadly Wiz Da Disko
6- Pole - R
7- Coldplay - A Rush Of Blood To The Head
8- The Cinematic Orchestra - Everyday
9- Plaid - P Brane
10- Andrew Pekler - Station To Station

this list will probably change until the end of the year
though.

so what's yours?

Not many good releases in 2002 that were not electronic IMO

If there were any good things outside of the electronica
range I would have tried to put them in my list. But......
there werent (to me)...... so I didnt

Most good music doesnt have to be new to be good
anyway......

And I dont know about the other people around here... but I
listen to lots of things outside of the electronic
genra.....

i know damn well i listen to a narrow range of music.

the only new stuff i listen to is artists suggested on this
board, and the occassional recommendation on amazon.com or
whatever. apart from that, i don't listen to the radio, or
watch t.v, so that eliminates all other ways to gear aboot
music.

i think the underworld album was disapointing, it just
sounded like a trumped up beaucoup fish

i also think geogaddi was a major disappointment for me
personally. just poor imo.

sigur ros is too new to really say anything about it, but i
like what i hear so far.

p-brane by plaid i really liked. i was hoping someone would
sample the intro to the 1st track and make a great record
out of it but nothing so far.

the bogdan lp was just far to agggressive for me.

i dunno... just the great songs i guess :-)
I haven't been a rhcp-fan for a very long time, i guess that
has something to do with it. I never really liked them when
they were a crazy energetic funkrock-band... (i loved under
the bridge but hated give it away, for instance).

Californication was the first cd by them i could appreciate,
for all the melodic stuff on there... but i don't care much
for songs like i like dirt, get on top & purple
stain
...

And on by they way the seem to have eliminated that style
altogether :-D It's just melodic pop/rock music, often quite
laid-back... and just really nice. This is the first album
by rhcp where non of the songs annoy me! Maybe í'm one of
the few who likes this cd so much... to me it sounds like
they've focussed entirely on what they are best at, and
dropped all the other weak stuff. But i realize that what i
call "weak stuff", is prolly the reason other people love
this band in the first place ;-)

p-brane are maybe the best 4 songs released this
year! I love this ep so much... if it would have been
album-length, with more songs of the same high quality, it
would have been the best release of 2002 for sure!

offline earthleakage from tell the world you're winning on 2002-11-07 18:49 [#00432401]

yes...
i've seen many people agree with you...

I only really like these songs of it:

Around the World, Parallel Universe, Scar Tissue,
Otherside, Californication, This Velvet Glove...
some of
the others are OK i suppose... but nothing that would make
my head buzz :-/ The 3 tracks mentioned in my previous post
are just plain ugly. (imo)

(but for what it's worth: those 6 songs are truly
outstanding! I often listen to the entire album just to hear
those six :-) They make me so very happy...

Maybe now you can understand (a little) why i prefer By The
Way... it's definitly in the same style as those songs,
right?)

p-brane would be a 9/10 in my book. I think diddymousedid
(altough absolutely fantastic!) is just slightly less
beautiful than the other 3... otherwise i'd have given a
10/10 :-o

not for me really. still v. disappointed. for someone who
stupidly believed the media when they said it was another
califonication, i'm gutted. but at the same time really
pleased. they've moved on. and so should all bands. what's
the point of repeating someting you've already done if not
for the money? i really can't enjoy listening to it at all.
but it makes the last album (to me) all the more special.

good point! I'm sure you would have liked By The Way better
if it would have been more like Californication... but at
the same time, it would have made californication less
special for you... to see what was once beautiful and unique
being turned into a simple formula.

I feel the same way... artists should always change and
evolve.

well it was your post on that song (diddymousedid) that made
me interested in the ep in the first place ;-) (a long time
ago). Otherwise i probably would not have bought it in the
first place... it was actually a very impulsive purchase!
(because i don't have any other plaid)...

but still i found the other 3 songs better than

Cheers earth, I just wondered what you thought. Have you
heard 'Too many Djs' dj live? It's really fun, loads of
surprises, vitalic with beyonce, beltram with nirvana and
Derrick may with dusty springfield. I know the bootleg
thing is a bit played out but it's cool live.

I spoke to david from soulwax and he said there was lots
that they couldn't put on their album due to copyright crap,
but they did it live. they're in england soon, you've got
to check them if you can. Seriously it's raw beats with
'popular' stuff.

You can take your girlfriend to it and they'll have a good
time!!
