Such insightful criticism. I don't go for the potter stuff
myself but only because I'm an ultra lazy lizard boi.

the first movie was probably the most overrated and
overhyped/taking way too much box-office money film ever.
Sure nice book 'n all, but that good? nah

Dumbledorf has died, so for the third film they're
considering Doctor #4 (Tom Baker) to replace him, and that
brat may not do the fourth film.

JK Rowling is officially the Richest Person in Scotland
(according to a recent study).

Agreed. The Harry Potter films are all probably going to be
quite poor. The Lord of the Rings movies will hopefully be
of the first one's standards throughout. The books I feel
the opposite way - I was never taken with Rings the novel
whereas I am enjoying the Potter series a LOT.

offline Zeus from San Francisco (United States) on 2002-11-07 13:36 [#00432128]

well, all the LOTR was filmed at once, so i suspect that the
acting will be consistant

and that leaves the only thing left to mess up is the
graphics, but no chance in that happening, since they made
oodles of money, and get the best cgi people to do it.

great acting, great story, great effects

ROCK

The strange thing is, eveybody's talking like the world of
harry potter is something completely new and never seen
before, when it's a road that has been travelled so many
times before by other great writers, the Grimm brothers,
Roald Dahl and of course the Greek storytellers of old,
homer and hesiod where alot of inspiration came from, not
the mention that Tolkien must have inspired her too.

Actually I don't know anyone except kids under 10 who call
Harry Potter 'completely new' - and you should remember
that's mostly who started reading them!

i cant respect annyone who has read any harry poter books.
seriusly? its fucking commersialized childrens literature.
read tolkien, and you have read about all fantsy books. they
are all more or less a ripoff. i did read a lot of fantasy
myself, when i was about 10-13..

the books are well written and I have great respect for
Rowling to come from practically nothing to multi-million
stardom. That alone is inspiring. If your writingstyle is
crap it wouldn't ever become as popular as it is now,
however I am annoyed by all the gimmicks that surround this
obvious hype. They even sell Harry Potter bandaids here.

I must say I enjoyed the Potter books, but I would compare
them to fast food. Easy, quick, temporarily enjoyable. I
think the most notable aspect of the potter books is the
fact that It got a whole lot of kids to read who would never
pick up a book beforehand.

As to other Fantasy. Has anyone read the "His Dark
Materials" Triology? (the golden compass, the subtle knife,
and the amber spyglass) Its another fantasy about young
people, but i rank it near The Lord of the Rings on my
favorites list. Its an amazing work, some of the richest
fantasy worlds i have experienced, along with tolkien and
Calvino.
