Would the music you make sound different if you had owned different equipment?

definitely, i think. if i could afford actual hardware synths and a drum machine, i think i'd be able to do so much more with my music. things get kind of stale using only software, in my opinion

Yeah, probably, but not a whole lot.
Exapt the skill factor; If I used reason I would sound even worse (coz I don't know how to use it), for example.

...I alway think too many programs force you into their way of working...everything seems to have the same interface so their output is tinged with that...things do tend to sound alike when people are using all the same gear...
It's like when you look around at buildings, you can see exactly who's been learning AutoCad...most public building of the 70s & 80s are like bad Desktop Publishing....
I wanna see stupid creative interfaces....put these 3D monster cards to use....I know there's good stuff happening in this area with MAX/PD/MSP etc... that's where most of the interesting shit seems to be coming together for me...I think I'm losing interest in tracks as such; process seems far more interesting...

yeah, I used to use that a lot...I bet it flys on a decent PC nowadays...
lots of surpising little features in there...simple synths & the like...
(I believe I even registered it...probably one of the only bits I've ever have so must've been good...)...

a lot of people say that having limited equipment or lack of musical gear can bring out more creativity in a person and boost your skill level. Because your pushing your gear to get the most out of it... so you have to learn the ins and outs of your gear and know it like the back of your hand... software as well. I am sure that if autechre has a MS2000 as their main synth, being the talented musicians that they are, I am sure they could make some wicked stuff, dont bash the MS2000 because it can make some good sounds for your, especially if you are filling up the virtual patch banks with your own patches, I love my MS2000

has=had... of course the MS2000 isnt their main synth....
people I think are just getting to frugen lazy now. People want to make "IDM" music and they want to make without going through all the steps you have to take to aquire the know how and the knowladge or synthesis and dsp technology and how it works, like Otto Von Schirach said in a track of his....Commercial Ld+ Add on Escalo Frio, its funny as hell and it basically sums up what I am trying to say ....

software you use only effects your outcome if you allow it to. often times if we don't get really creative with software then we just have another song that sounds like what most people do with it. It's a good idea to use as many programs a possible and learn that one function in each that the others won't do. that way you have an arsonal of sound tricks you can use and it's not the program you are using anymore.

I dunno, I think when I can't get a tune down from my head it's because I'm gash at midi, not because of the software I use. I don't find sofysynths limiting at all... I used to find acid a bit restricitive, but things like floops don't really have limits when you start using a myriad of plugins & FX.
I used to think re-birth was really limiting, but I think the trick is to just use it from time to time with other stuff. Naturally, if you just make music only using that it's bound to sound fairly bland. I remember when re-birth first came out, being amazed at the range of sounds you could get, but know I just think it's laughable. I expect one day I'll think absynth & reaktor are "limiting". Maybe not... :P

When I start working on a new track I say 'fuck, this time I won't use any granular synthesis'. And in almost any case, after 1hour playing with a amen break I end up using this ol'good granular machine with buzz and sound like bad autechre :)
