what' your view/opinion on religion?

I think it's all bullocks, I don't hold peoples religion
against them,.. but I hate it when they try to force stuff
on to me, I also hate it when people try to convince
religous people that there is no god/budha, whatever,

If god forgives all then why is there a hell?

as if that argument is going to make a christian doubt his
beliefs, it's just silly

If god sticks his head through the clouds and say's hi, I'll
say hi back ............ and that's about it =oD

Best fun is arguing with Jehovahs witnesses, "Don't you
think it's flawed to right the holy text of your religion 42
years after your religion was started? Surely people jsut
wrote stuff to back up what they already believed? Doesn't
that make your "scripture" worthless?"

I don't know about God but:

"I believe that religion, generally speaking, has been a
curse to mankind - that its modest and greatly overestimated
services on the ethical side have been more than overcome by
the damage it has done to clear and honest thinking." - H.L.
Mencken

i think the situation is more complicated that we think or
that we can imagine...

maybe there are many things that we don't know but could be
called "god" or "gods", because they would have the ability
of controlling us or because they would had created our
universe... maybe a force, maybe an alien population, maybe
something else we can't imagine...

i don't think anything is eternal though -- and i hope it is
so... i wouldn't like to be dominated by one only god (and
if he had a personality that would be catastrophic!),
especially forever...

maybe we control and create universes too, without knowing
it, in another dimensions, by our thoughts or chain
reactions or whatever... so everyone would be "god" in
another world (or several), and everyone would have one or
several "gods" too... who knows?

Ceri> or the old Bill Hicks question "Dinosaur?" well why
aren't they mentioned in the bible huh?
the story of the universe since its creation... and you
missed out the meetings of man with 200 tonne lizards......
sure :)

apparently they believe Dinosaur fossils are fakes buried
by God to test our faith in him....

Fuck that ; any religion that believes that God is Jeremy
Beadle has to be a joke :)

I agreed to go to one of their church services for a laugh.
It was really scary these 2 guys kept on ringing me all the
time asking me to go to their prayer session (it was on the
same evening as my kung fu class) and how it was God's will
that I went. In the end I asked them to stop calling...

Still, at least you can take solace in the fact that those
of them who lose their faith/are excommunicated for
disagreeing with an elder usually commit suicide as their
whole life (family, friends, job, etc) is based around their
faith...

Smokehammer: That would make Jar a male verison of Mary (or
something)...

I think that the human mind cannot grasp the fact that when
we die we just die ! The human mind is so complex and
emotions feel so real that there "must" be a place for them
to go !! When realy it's just chemicals and shit in your
body making you feel that way

It also helps you greave when you think of a loved one in a
better place

means..... Lets get down to it!

Ever noticed that the number of Gods increases with the
degree of ethnic tension ?

I mean, Northern Ireland appears to have two Gods , but that
doesn't make it twice as peaceful. Surely its better to
forget God and get along with each other .

Religion is bullshit but i am a strong beleiver in
spirituality. I have a relationship with a higher power of
my understanding which i choose to call god. That's pretty
much the jist of my beliefs. I hate organized religion. It's
mind control in the form of easy answers. I say believing in
whatever you want is the way. Atheists are weak people
though. You've got to stand for something in my opinion. I
believe it's all just one god and he really dosn't give a
fuck about all the petty bullshit religion says he does.
It's fucking ridiculous to organize something as beautiful
as individual spirituality. I fucking hate christians also.
They're the worlds most shallow hypocrites.

I'm very religious. It's never failed me.

However, fanatics, right wing crazies, people pushing
religion, is simply wrong.

The worst thing for me is religious people who claim
homosexuality is so wrong. I wonder which trait God likes
more, hate and anger, or compassion?

yeah, thought so.

I am 100% traditionally religious though, it keeps me alive
sometimes, but I'm always open to a dialouge though.

Bit of a swepeing generalisation there... could you be more
specific, perhaps, catholicism or money making tv
evangelists or irritating jehovah's witnesses? Such a broad
statement hardly seems fair...

No, we developed from a complicated process of
electrochemical reactions initiated at the beginning of our
known time and the concept of "what happed BEFORE that" is
as unknowable to us at the moment as how a calculator works
would be unknowable to a monkey. We got lots to learn and
the first thing whould be that God concepts are a left over
from more primative times. Maybe we can never grasp the full
meaning of it all... maybe thats like asking a fish to grasp
Digital Signal Processing.. it maybe inherently ungraspable
by the human mind. I'm awake. Are you from Kansas where
evolution is ignored?

so wierd reading this thread... I'm an ex-jehovah witness. I
was raised by my parents as one, and didn't get out till I
was 19 or so. I actually "pioneered" for a couple years,
which means i knocked on people's doors for 20 hours a week.
god I hated that... what someone said about ex-jehovahs
commiting suicide is true. i know the only reason i didn't
leave earlier was because everyone you've ever known your
whole life will shun you. all the ex-jehovahs i know are
seriously messed up, heroine seems to be the drug of choice,
and i can't really blame them, just hope that they get
through it.

if you want them to stop coming to your house just tell them
that you should be on their list as a do-not-call. they'll
understand and will only be back every couple years or so.

i was born catholic alright. but thats cultural, and is
something i left when i gained enough knowledge to form my
own opinion.
if i had a kid, i would raise it as a catholic because my
religious education was interesting, allowed for a well
rounded childhood, and served the purpose of being a sourse
of guidance when there was nothing else. .. on turning 15 i
would of course say to my child... "now you do know that all
that reigious crap was just a handy way of stableising you,
bu now that you are stable... forget about it, man and have
a spliff!"
i don't feel like im go of my fate but i AM actually, i'm

good question: no where does it indicate we must praise him
constantly.

Going to church/prayer is important, but doesn't need to
revolve around "GOD IS GREAT" it is important to only have
one true God, in a Judeo Christian world that is.

SOme groups take it way to far.....

he doesn't .... man has built that in to religion because it
is a control technique for man to praise the established,
rich clergymen.
I like Shintoism and buddishm... They recogised that man
should look after the planet and himself ahead of the
thievery of christianity and jewdaism..... Yes they have
their supernatural side but they more or less acknowledge
that siide of religion as being a tool... an abstract,
creative device for elevating spiritual values above
material ones. Western religion got bogged down in taking
things too literally. its a mess...
