"you can't get a decent vitamin
supplement with only pills and mushrooms.
ie a lot of vegetarians are not as healthy as omnivores."

thats just a myth. you can get all the vitamins and proteins
etc.. its a bit of work though.

i'm a vegetarian since i'm very young... i don't remember
exactly, i was like 6 or 7, and i had animal plushes that i
found so cute i thought it horrible to eat animals, and said
to my mother i wouldn't eat meat anymore...

i've passed that age, but i'm still a vegetarian.
not really for the same reasons - i just find meat
disgusting now. ' _ '

i'm not going to preach about how unfair it is to eat meat
and things like that - animals eat meat, too! - but i think
what's really unfair and horrible is the way animals are
living in most breedings (how do you say that? not sure,
sorry).
they have no space to live, can't wash themselves properly,
live in promiscuity... (especially for hens)
i believe and hope this way of breeding animals will change
in the future... the concentration camp image may be
shocking, but in some cases it really looks like nothing but
it.

other than that, "life feeds on life"...
that's nature, and there would surely have a problem in the
ecosystem if we'd all start being vegetarians!

"animals eat meat, too!"

yes, but they don't have the brainpower to make a choice
about that.

btw i'm quite amazed by the number of vegetarians here...
it's a lot rarer where i live! (yeah, culture differences
and stuff... it's even hard to find a restaurant with
vegatarian meals...)

not as surprising as the number of people here who actually
make electronic music though. ' _ '

I like eating meat and if you try to stop me you will be the
next meal. When my vegetarian friend is around I'll quite
happily make him vegetarian food and I'll eat the same thing
as him out of courtesy so he is not sitting at a table with
me ripping chunks out of meat as he eats. The way animals
are treated before they are killed for food is bad but I
love meat and have no desire to stop even if it's morally
wrong.

thats okay, ofcourse. if you like eating meat, go ahead, by
all means. if I were to eat at your place, I would like to
eat vegetarian food, but I would never mind you eating meat.
that wouldn't bother me.

Imagine if humans had a natural preditor like dragons or
vampires.

i don't think there's more vegatarians here, it's just a
fact that they always have to have their say about the issue

It's a huge argument to take on really. I mean some
vegetarians say they don't eat meat because of the way the
animals are badly treat but if you ask them if the meat was
prepared er.. 'naturally' if they would then eat it some say
no still and others very rarely say yes. It's like you have
many types of vegetarians so it's confusing.

I understand that [I will try and get this right] the amount
of food the animal consumes makes it a strain on natural
resources or is not efficient or something? I hear this
off-hand so it would require research.

earthleakage > yeah, of course, but it also depends on the
country you live in. traditional meals, local food... ' _ '

when i say i'm a vegetarian, some people are really
surprised or amused.

Spikee Dragon > about different types of vegetarians...

i hate when people believe vegetarians eat fish (someone
even questioned me if i was eating chicken!! -_-).

You know what's funny? You never hear these animal rights
people bitching about saving the ugly animals. It's
always just the cute & furry ones. When was the last time
you saw a protestor with a sign that read, "Save The
Walrus!"?

offline uzim on 2002-10-22 10:00 [#00413017]

Elastic > you're right, that's unfair... ' _ '
but, as one great philosopher once said,
"ugly is bad and bad is wrong and wrong is sinful and sin
leads to eternal damnation", so hey, that's still fair in a
way. :)

more seriously - i think cuteness is nothing but an argument
to convince the skeptical that saving animals is
important... at least i hope so.

Well I know some vegetarians that will eat fish and chicken.
I don't class them as vegetarians tho and just keep in mind
no reds if they visit. But this whole thing is really
confusing.

haha it looks like the meateaters are more hostile towards
the vegetarians than the other way around...

I'm a vegetarian by the way. Why? Because all my apetite is
lost when I think of the fact that I'm eating bodyparts. And
secondly I don't agree on how animals are treated in the
meatindustry. I'll never avoid using any animalproducts but
I try to minimise it.

I'm an omnivore... I eat meat when I need to, and veg too!
People should be allowed to eat wha they want. I belive that
I should be capable of killing the animal I'm eating... if
not then I shouldn't eat it.

Depends. I don't really need to eat a human so if I was i'd
prolly be doing it to infict pain and fear or as part of
something else. Some other dragons I know (bigger ones)
would swallow humans whole and let them digest. But I was
just playing anyway so I need to cut this talk before you
call me crazy *swishes his tail*

I'm not a vegetarian, I really enjoy meat, especially
chicken. Although a nice flame grilled steak is hard to
beat!

Wow, this is some thread ... I actually read most of it
because I am interested in everyone's opinions.

I became a vegetarian while at university and continued for
about 5 years. In retrospect, I think I was a bit
brainwashed at the time but the issues raised are still
important: humane treatment of animals, environmentalism
(you can feed much more people with the amount of food a cow
eats than the actual cow), and health.

I stopped because after 5 years I didn't feel considerably
more or less healthy. It was probably a good thing as I did
a lot of traveling around the world after that and it helps
to be a bit of an omnivore.

When I eat, it's a real sensory experience, and to be
honest, it's quite hard for a vegetarian dish prepared by me
at home to excite the senses like a meat dish. Some of the
Thai and Indian vegetarian dishes that I make come pretty
close though. Perhaps I'm just not a good enough cook!

Starting to ramble, better stop now ...

im not telling anyone to not eat meat its more about the
treatment of animals that get slaughtered. if they werent
tourtured like they are it wouldnt be as big of a debate
although i still wouldnt eat meat. whoever was just yelling
at me im not even gonna give you an answer to whatever you
typed because there is no reason for you to get hostile or
for me to respond to a message like that.
