Oh woe!

I miss staying up all night playing videogames. I try to
force myself to do it sometimes and have fun like I did when
I was younger...But I just can't anymore. Whenver I finally
get the chance to sit down and play I always feel like I
could be doing something more productive like walking the
dog or washing my armpits. These thoughts gnaw away at me
until I break down crying and throw the controller across
the room... Where the hell does conviction come from
anyway? Would a lobotomy take care of it?

No you just need better games. Try GTA3 or Deus Ex.

Deus Ex is my type of game. I can't wait until the sequel
comes out on Xbox.

The times when I could get lost in a videogame were special
times. Every now and then my friend, brother and me would
stay up playing Goldeneye 'til late.

Video games are evil. they rot the mind and erode the soul.
Take up masturbation.

I don't like them as much as I used to. Particularly on the
PC (unless it's emulators). I still play the dreamcast a
fair bit, but that's mainly either Rez or playing socially
with mates.

Why did video game companies stop producing 2D platform
games. That was my favorite genre (mario - metroid - kid
Icarus ...). 3D is OK but there's still a lot to do with the
platform game concept.

I don't know. For some reason developers have it ingrained
in their heads that if it's not 3d now, then it's not going
to sell. My all-time favorite game on the Playstation was
a 2d sidescroller (Castlevania : Symphony of the Night) and
as far I know it sold VERY well. In fact, it garnered 'Best
Playstation Game Ever' from at least two of the major
console magazines. Videogames are just like women :
Bitmaped textures and highcount polygons are nice but it's
the engaging gameplay that keeps you coming back.

There's a new 2d Castlevania game for the GBA. The 2 d
platformer is alive and well (play warioland 4 on the
GBA!)-just only on handhelds :)

str_ph: Kid Icarus was wicked. So hard, but really good.

Yeah it took me ages to beat Medusa and I don't know if any
of you remember solomon key. I never finished the game -
completly impossible for any sane person. I decided to not
play this again (with an emulator) because it's to easy to
cheat with those emulators ; I would never have the pleasure
to finish it in a 'fair' way.

I remember Solomon's key- I had it on the spectrum as well
as on emulators subsequently. As to emulators being cheating
tools, I know waht you mean, I completed manic miner thanks
to the save feature in a speccy emu :)

Neetta: Commander Keen was a bit before I got into PCs but I
rember playing it over a mate's house and thinking it was
pretty cool. Especially the pogo stick. What was that other
similair game they (Apogee/iD) did? Cosmo or something?

Yeah, I bought Harmony of Dissonance the day it came out. I
don't know.. It's a solid game but it's no Symphony of the
Night. The music is pretty shallow and the animation gets
on my nerves...Argh.
