I started out with buying his cd Supermodified...and I
can't say I like it. I dled the other ones: Permutation and
Bricolage...and love them. They are far better than Super I
think. He's definatly cool.

I don't know. I guess I'll have to listen to it again. I
didn't care for it at first.

amon tobin is awsome, there is nothing to dislike about his
music.

And his new album is excellent too, if somewhat darker and
heavier than his old stuff.

yeah Out, From Out Where is defiantely a bit darker, and
perhaps less beats-oriented. but it's a fine album.

Well, Supermodified was less beats-orriented already. And
Out from (I got it 2 months ago from soulseek and apparently
at that time it was to be called differently) has some fine
drumwork in some songs. It's very good... And the single
goes into Prefuse 73 territory but manages to escape pure
imitation. That guitar loop is a nice touch.

what i like about Amon's music is his taste for samples.
really dark, weird sounds. top stuff.

Hmm, yes, although he is kinda stuck with same sound... I
mean, all his albums sound like they have been using the
same 60's cocktail jazz record for as sample source. Though,
while he manages to do wonders with it, I am not
complaining.

Shit, I am discussing music here, I can't believe it.

Amon Tobin's music is cool but easy to do, he samples good
music & remix it with new sounds. no samples, no amon tobin.
but still it is very good music.

Easy to do? Are you crazy? The editing he has to do for
every of his tracks is fucking hell. The details, the
metuculous care he takes of every sound... I'm not saying it
necessarily makes his music artistically great, but, hell,
no, it's not easy to do!!!

I tend to agree with meho on this one .. the stuff is
incredibly intricate / perhaps not to the extent of gantz
graf .. but he does have quite a homogenous/signature sound.
Even cujo reeks of the same odour - all very nice stuff tho
.. but it just has to be said.

Uh, I spelled meticulous improperly down there. Other than
that, I have to say Amon is one of the best N-Tune artists
around. And I repeat NOT because his samples are
painstakingly edited, but because his music is good. Let's
not mix art and craft.

transmutator is NOT the same album as the new one.
transmutator has some of the same songs (ripped from a solid
steel ninja tune dj set earlier this year) mixed in with
remixes by amon tobin and b-sides. it's a fan compilation
basically.

i would start chronologically, with
"adventures in foam"... it's only fair to the artist
methinks.
