is growing among some of the strongest allies in the US led
"war on
terrorism"..here are two items...first is an interview with
President Pervaiz Musharraf of Pakistan..the biggest
supporter of "war on Al-Qaeda"

ATTACK ON IRAQ: Pakistan is not "at all" interested in
joining efforts to topple Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein,
President Musharraf said.

"I wouldn't like Pakistan to get involved at all," he said.
"We have too much on our hands here internally and
regionally and we wouldn't like to get involved anywhere
outside."

Gen Musharraf warned that a US military strike against Iraq
would not only raise ire among the Muslim world, but would
also upset other Western interests.

"I don't think there is full support even in the European
Union and in many other big powers, in Russia, China... so I
think it's going to disturb, cause a lot of imbalance."

He warned that too many Muslim countries were being targeted
in military operationsand equated efforts to remove Saddam
Hussein with yet another attack on a Muslim country.

"At the moment all the political disputes, all the military
action, all the casualties, the suffering, are by the
Muslims around the world, because all the political disputes
involve Muslims unfortunately," he said.

"And more unfortunately Muslims happen to be at the
receiving end every year. Therefore another ... action
against a Muslim country will certainly have its impact."

The army chief also said there was "no point" in Islamabad
providing any kind of support to a military strike on Iraq,
as it did with the US-led bombardment of Afghanistan. "We
have no geographical affinity with Iraq, and therefore
there's no point in our getting involved."

second is Russia..

Russia threatens to veto US strike on Iraq

MOSCOW, Sept 2: Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov on
Monday raised the spectre of a Moscow veto in the UN
Security Council over strikes on Iraq as he again warned
Washington against launching a military assault to unseat
President Saddam Hussein.

Flanked by Iraqi counterpart Naji Sabri following 15-minute
one-on-one talks in Moscow's foreign ministry guests'
mansion, Russia's top diplomat accused Washington of
harbouring political motives for ousting Saddam.

He said US President George Bush's administration had
provided no evidence to back up claims that Iraq was
developing weapons of mass destruction.

"We have underlined many times that a military solution will
not only complicate the Iraqi problem but also undermine the
situation in the entire Middle East," Ivanov told reporters
after the meeting.

Washington has suggested that it may avoid the United
Nations entirely should it decide to launch attacks, arguing
that its actions would be justified by Iraq's non-compliance
with existing UN resolutions on weapons inspectors.

But should Bush decide to appeal to the United Nations,
Ivanov for the first time made clear that Russia - which is
one of five permanent UN Security Council members to have
veto power - would say no.

"I hope that this question is not raised in the Security
Council, that Russia's veto will not be necessary. We think
that the Iraqi situation can only be resolved through
diplomatic means," he said.

In one of the harsher condemnations to have come out of
Moscow in weeks, he called the US threat "political" in
nature.

"We are studying Washington's comments about the
inevitability of a military solution to the Iraqi problem.
There has not been a single well-founded argument that
proves that Iraq threatens US national security. These
comments are political in nature," he said.

Ivanov's talks with Sabri came against the backdrop of
sensitive Western press reports about Moscow dip

Ivanov's talks with Sabri came against the backdrop of
sensitive Western press reports about Moscow diplomats'
secret meetings in Washington with senior Iraqi opposition
figures.

The Russian foreign minister - never denying that such talks
were held - played down the importance of the meetings and
accused the Western press of "blowing up the story".

Sabri for his part called the opposition figures "criminals
who are wanted by the Iraqi authorities.

"Such contacts in no way affect the depth of our relations"
with Russia, Sabri said.

The meeting came only hours after Ivanov was quoted as
saying in a speech before Russian diplomats that Moscow
supported "pre-emptive measures" against global terrorism,
but only under UN approval.

Those comments strongly hinted of a reluctant acceptance of
US arguments to launch a military assault aimed at unseating
President Saddam.

The United Nations and other international institutions must
"resolve existing problems - but it is even better to take
pre-emptive measures".

The world "has changed remarkably... and unfortunately these
changes began with the tragedy in America", said Ivanov in
his morning comments.

Some senior Russian lawmakers close to President Vladimir
Putin's administration had earlier suggested that Moscow's
main interests in Iraq were commercial and that they have
little interest in seeing Saddam remain in power as long as
existing contracts are honoured.

Washington had earlier been concerned by Iraqi claims that
it had struck a new 40-billion-dollar trading agreement with
Russia.-AFP

hmmm, this doesn't sound like "Opposition to attacks" but
rather "We don't want to join the attack" which makes no
difference at all... The US army is big enough to do it
alone.

I think Mr. Musharraf just wants to avoid a civil war by
calming down his people with a mild resistance speech. In
practice nothing will happen because they depend on the
USA(millitary airplane deals for the battle against India).

Blair faces war warnings

Tony Blair would very likely lose his job if he took the UK
into war with Iraq, former Labour MP Tony Benn has warned.
Mr Benn's comments are among a swathe of opposition voices
over possible military action greeting the prime minister as
he returns to the UK from the world summit

Former Defence Minister Peter Kilfoyle said action over Iraq
could spark a range of dissatisfaction with the government

Fears over Iraq have been echoed by senior figures in Mr
Blair's constituency Labour Party in Sedgefield.

'Inaction no option'

Religious leaders too are renewing their opposition to war,
with the World Council of Churches upping the moral pressure
on Mr Blair and President George Bush on Tuesday.

The prime minister is expected to say that ignoring the
alleged threat posed by Iraqi President Saddam Hussein is
not an option.

But he has repeatedly stressed that no decisions have been
made.

Anthony Eden stepped down in the wake of Suez

Despite that reassurance, Tony Benn told BBC News 24 he
believed Defence Secretary Geoff Hoon's forthcoming visit to
Washington was aimed at planning the war.

Mr Benn compared possible military action with the Suez
invasion in 1956, which sounded the death-knell for Anthony
Eden's premiership after America withheld its backing.

He warned that Mr Blair could face similar dangers

Anybody hearing Blair spin bollocks in a press confrence
right now? Justifying why he is supporting an attack on
Iraq?..Just rhetoric..remember Sept11..America shouldnt face
the terrorists alone..blah blah blah

What the Fuck does Iraq have to do with 9/11?

"What the Fuck does Iraq have to do with 9/11?"

9/11 happened partly because of the first war against
Iraq... "Remember 9/11?" Yes, and that's another reason why
we shouldn't attack. "America shouldnt face
the terrorists alone" yeah right, like Europe needs some
attacks as well... Blair is a fool and he's putting all of
us in danger :(

between Iraq and Al Qaeida..if we actually are to follow and

and over written plots they are churning out as
justification for the continuing war on terrorism...

What pisses me off is all the bullshit smokescreens about
"weapons of mass destruction", "terrorism", blah, blah,
blah. America are really scraping the barrel with real dregs
of evidence because the only reason they want with Iraq is
that Iraq is the second largest source of oil in the world
and Hussein obstructs American access to that oil.

OK, OK, but, the problem is this (and I will try not to get
terribly postmodern here): with means of mass communication
we have at our disposal, the world is reduced to a
playground accessible to us from our comfortable chairs: TV,
Internet, Phones... So, we hear of so many people suffering/
dying that it all becomes too massive to really relate to.
Being aware of all that pain and still coping with it is
impossible, especially when not able to do much about it
(and, no, we can't do much about it, for all the anti-war
and anti-violence protests that always go on), hence the
sarcasm, the last refuge of the helpless.
