Either you misunderstood or you're using the childish
debating tactic of intentional misinterpretation...

What I said was that lending elements of the military to the
US isn't that expensive as they have to be paid and
maintained whether they're being used or sitting around.
Giving "aid" to countries that abuse it soaks up actual
money far quicker as it is something that could be kept if
there was no need for it.

I'm not for the army being used at a drop of a hat. However,
in pure monetary terms it makes more sense to lend a
resource at little loss to another country in exchange for
beneficial trade agreements rather than "giving" money away
to a country (that doesn't export much anyway) for a trade
alliance.

It wouldn't collapse, but the fact is American
tourists are attracted to visiting this country by the
aristocracy in general; Buckingham Palace, Country Houses,
&etc.

Ask a family that runs a b&b near London or a london street
trader whether they'd want to get rid of the monarchy...

But why should we 'lend' our Armed Forces to the US, the
biggest military power in the world, if the people don't
want to go to war? To keep them sweet?
Fuck that. We aren't the 51st American state.

I agree that most Brits I know disagree with lending our
troops to the US (esp. the people I know in our forces...),
but they are for the war in Iraq. That's the problem with
democracy- people are idiots.
