I'm not sure how much Philip K Dick is in anything hollywood has done based on Philip K Dick, including Blade Runner. "Based on..." is such a great escape clause when you need to Spielberg out on something (you've seen AI, maybe?). I did like MR, it lands nicely between BR and Gattaca (sp?). Still...very Hollywood.

I thought it was an abomination with too many goofy stupid scenes, and not enough PKD. Hollywood loves to rip apart good art
and sell it to the masses. Read VALIS or The Divine Invasion. That is what PKD is all about, not Tom Cruise being set up by his own police force and then changing his eyeballs and accidentily
eating some rotten food and drinking rotten milk. Imposter was worse but pretty much the same deal with a cop being framed, PKD was not about cops being framed or Hollywood gimmicks, he was about expansion of our minds, evolution of our minds into super psychic beings, the precogs
kind of hit upon this but they were not well developed characters and for a being that had been sitting in liquid for
6 years or whatever she sure could move around well.
There has never been a film based on a PKD story that lived up to his standards,
hopefully we will see one some day.

I still liked the movie, and Blade Runner is one of my favourites...they just having next to nothing to do with the sourse material. I must say though, that at times I'm sure that PKD was eating the same loaf of mouldy bread as H.P. Lovecraft...he just metabolised it a bit differently.

I was dissapointed, I expected a mind-blowing film. It was average.
The future world (often reminiscent of Demolition Man) was fucking cool. But the plot was convoluted and stupid. Anyone notice minority reports had nothing to do with the movie?

I thought this movie SUCKED... . visually, it was interesting, but the plot was pretty weak...
and for some reason, as Atop said, there were so many pointless and unexplained scenes interspursed in the movie...
the general public doesn't know what a good sci-fi film--or a good sci-fi book for that matter--is like, and thus, films like this get excellent reviews, claiming how 'fresh' and 'avant-gaurd' it is....
typical shitty speilberg....imo

the eye removal scene--although it was not at all pointless--seemed like terry gilliam had set the pemise for it, and then mr. speilberg softened it in a way that would seem more bearable for the audience to sit through and laugh at the obvious, more blatant and straightforward humor.
The horticulturist scene was great visually, with those carnivorous plants... but why did this crazy plant lady 'invent' precrime, and why the fuck did she kiss him?! Merely to entertain the general public's low attention span....
but this is just my opinion...

some people need things spelt out for them in films, that what me thinks.
read more, it may help. pay more attention to what is explained with plot, setting, and character development.
just because things aren't 'said' does not mean they are not explained.
maybe you pholks should watch it again. and for those of you who said blade runner sucked, i think you should read the aforementioned suggestions, for me thinks you missed the point of the film.
in fact, i know you did. watch it again.

there was nothing wrong with that movie, it was crisp, mint, ace, it owns. what a champion of a movie. the production design was better than both new star wars movies imo, and it was perfect all around. better than total recall. it's now one of my favorites of all time.
pointless scenes? no way. i don't care about PKD and how this movie compares. who cares. look at what's there and not what's missing. it is a masterpiece of a movie.

Stanley Kubrick is dead, Spielberg needs to die,
The scene with the eyeball transplant was A COMPLETE RIP OFF OF A CLOCKWORK ORANGE.
The eyelid openers were probably the same ones used in ACO.
This movie sucked ass, and who ever doesn't think so needs to watch
12 Monkeys, or the Fellowship of the Ring, or 2001, and then they'll probably think these films suck
becasuse they have too much substance and are good SciFi/Fantasy!
sorry for venting but The Minority Report is one of the worst films EVER.

Although I agree that every movie you listed above is better than minority report (which I was dissapointed by as you can see in my post above), the eyeball removal scene was more taken from 12 Monkeys (teeth removal) than clockwork orange. Just because he holds eyelids open (and the openers were different) in both movies doesn't really mean that they are a rip-off of each other.

the emphasis on the eye openers in TMR looked just like Alex having them placed on his eyes in ACO,
I know they didn't take out his eyes but there was classical music being played \throughout the film a common occurrence within Kubrick films.
and some of the scenes were just blatant style rips on Kubrick in general, yes he is a good man to have as an influence but you don't copy his style for your own benefit.
Spielberg has no style anymore, only wishy washy films for generic film goers. He needs to leave the scifi to Gilliam, David Fincher, and Richard Kelley(Donnie Darko) and some others I can't think of now.
Spielberg needs to put Hook 2, or maybe Batteries Not Included 2.
he sucks just face it.

Heh I saw Solaris on tv here some weeks ago. So slooow, but fascinating with the Russian and all.
Yesterday night/this morning I watched A.I, The Score and Memento.
Memento was fucking brilliant. Awesome movie. I like Edward Norton, but The Score was a bit lacking. Good see though. A.I - I liked it. There were some stupid shit in it, but overall there was an eerie atmosphere to it. For example when the couple first get to know the robot kid. Also, those aliens were the Kamino from Episode2?? Very same, but black.

Saying this movie is the "worst movie ever" is just stupid. I think people like to bash popular and hyped up movies just so they can get a rise out of people, get attention, and appear intelligent or anti-mainstream.
If you don't like movies that are "too hollywood," don't see summer blockbuster action movies!
I have yet to see anyone supply a valid reason for thinking it was a bad movie, other than the fact that it wasn't true to Phillip K. Dick.

Spielberg's MR was good for a one night entertainment. There is a lot of cool ideas in it (the concept of precrime and stuff), and a lot of annoying crap (future identifying, advertising methods).
I dont like when a movie has so many link to nowadays multinational companies as this film. I kind of think Spielberg only cares about money. Like his Lucas friend. And it is sad.

I didn't say this was the worst movie ever, and I don't agree, its far far from it. But I can give you lots of reasons why it was bad. First of all, I didn't expect this movie to be a "summer blockbuster action movie", I expected something much more, and you're right, that was my mistake, it was just a "summer blockbuster action movie". A weak plot, just eyecandy and some funny demolition man future moments. The movie had nothing to do with minority reports. When the plot got too convoluted this guy just shoots the guy so you know he's the bad guy and everything will be all right when he's dead. The movie to me seemed like every other scene was picked out of another movie mad before it. Some scenes were just bullshit, like the crazy "oracle, as I call her" plant lady who kisses him and then starts squeezing the plant while her hands bleed saying "all species only wish to insure their survival", that was fucking pointless, and there were other scenes like this one. I was entertained, especially during some special effect scenes (like when you realize the road he's on when he gets out of his car is vertical and not horizontal). The fight scenes were weak, and just Tom Cruise kicking the shit out of 10 guys with weapons while they come at him one at a time power-ranger style. And of course, after he beats up all the henchman he has to go into hand to hand combat with the head policeman on top of that scaffold/crane thing in the car factory designated futuristic fight area. I can go on, I don't really regret seeing the movie, I mean it was worth $10 bucks, but that's about it. I'm just giving you some reasons people might be saying it was bad, since you couldn't find any.
