I've had a Sega Megadrive and Master System for the last 7 years (got the MD 4 years ago) and last November bought a SNES and in January bought a Gameboy Color. These are the only consoles I have ever had and ever prolly will have. I still lvoe Sonic for its classicness, but I really like Mario aswell... Sonics still number 1 though ;) Which are your faves? |

Mario, obviously! Sonic games are fun, but shallow... you can just roll up into a little ball and zoom your way through the levels at warp speed... Mario games, on the other hand, have depth hidden under all that kiddy cuteness... every Mario game has revolutionized gaming... EVERY SINGLE platform innovation is from Mario games! Power ups, map screens, warp zones, multiple routes, it's all Mario... Sonic is Mario's bitch, it's Mario for people with no attention span! Mario 64 is still the best pure 3-D platformer ever, everyone rips it off, but can't top it. And since Shigeru Miyamoto is working on Mario Sunshine, you can be damn sure that's going to have FLAWLESS gameplay if you've got the brains to look past the kid's stuff! |

I'd say mario. Childhood memories beside, there was much more diverse franchise baised out of mario than sonic. They put out a bunch of RPG's, 3 differen Tetris style games, a bunch Racing games, street fighter style games and more (especially if you take into account all the spinoff games baised on individual characters) on top of the 5 (or more) super mario games. What did they release for sonic? Pinball. And it was pretty much along the same vein as all the other sonic games out there. |

Every Mario game redefines their genre... people rip off Shigeru's ideas left and right, just like with Zelda. But every Sonic game, like Mega Man, are just rehashes of the same light speed formula. Mario is the Beatles of video games, Sonic is the AC/DC... or something. |

i love both... i don't have any sonic games because i only have snes, n64 and ps2, but sonic is part of my childhood... used to play it at my cousin's house... :) as for the characters, i prefer sonic, but mario is more innovative... and they both have their own style |

Sonic I should like Mario more as a Nintendo-fan, but I think I had more fun playing sonic games. I liked the level design more, it had better music and is less childish. SM64 is a great game but its camera annoys the hell outta me! |

downloaded snes and genesis emulators lately... with sonic 1, 2, 3, K, and super mario world... yeah, mario is more "deep", has more ideas (it's shigeru miyamoto after all!)... but given the ambiance of the games i can't deny i have a little preference for sonic 3. ' _ ' |
