I personally think that a lot of electronic musicians have little to no stage presence...infact i stumbled upon a little article of just that...it even mentions RDJ...so if you're bored, or just interested, i sugest heading on over to: to read it... don't be shy to post your opinions on the matter as well... |

Interesting article. However, most our "listening" habits, gig-wise are only that: habits. I understand that people expect more than watching a single person carressing powerbook trackball on stage but this has to do more with theatre than with music/ sound itself... Hmm... |

Very interesting. I've pondered this many times. I know exactly what he's talking about with the audience performer feedback loop, in fact, I've used the same terminology. A friend of mine didn't understand why I watching Autechre when they were playing live. He insisted that it was pointless and that I should just lesten to the music. The thing it, it's not just about the music, it's about the artist because they are the source of the music. I find it much easier to feel the music at a live show when I can watch the creators feeling it themselves and responding physically. Not that I didn't shit my pants in insanity and joy at the Ae show, but there was a feeling of dryness everytime I looked at them and they showed no sign of emotional reaction to their own music. |

yeah, well written and he has a point, but I still don't necessarily have a problem with laptop artists. I saw Kaffe Matthews last year and she was not even onstage but in the middle of the audience and everybody sat and listened in peace and it was excellent. |

I went to a rock show the other day. it was for a small band, but my friend who is well into that kidna shit said it was great... I trust his oppion on that kinda stuff, so I guess it was a great show. But I couldn't help but find myself bored as fuck throught the whole thing. Their was a funk band afterwards that was pretty good, so that cheered me up some. |

I can't see anyone in the electronic music community replacing the stage presence of classic rock performers like Freddie Mercury. Unfortunately I never got to see him live as the AIDS took him. However he was a real showman. Who in dance music can compare? |

No-one, (maybe Cex?), but that's the whole point. Rock show is only ONE way of doing live music. Not THE way. Dig it? Just because it has this strong community/ ritual feature, doesn't mean that it necessarily should be done that way. |

the last close to live thing I was a performance film called Des Rivez..with a wonderfully cut up film being mixed live via several projectors filters etc with an alternatively crushing, hipnotic and beguiling soundscape once again being mixed live......beat a rock concert any day... |

They played two or three gigs here in the last 4 years and my girlfriend went to see them but I couldn't be arsed, don't care too much for all-theater-and-irony and no music stuff. Our music teacher always used to complain that there was too much of a visual element to modern music- lots of dancers and lights etc. I tend to agree, I only really like visualization plugins because they allow you to "see" the music. I'd like to "see" RDJ in a well lit clean, full seating concert hall. HE could just stand there and play and you could appreciate the great music and superior accoustics of a "proper" venue. |

i feel that visuals are now a nessicity in the now mp3 world...the access is so easy to obtain music, that there, now more than ever, needs to be something diffrent when witnessing artists live. I've seen a few pics of live set that are just fucking ingenous...for example...somewhere on the net is a pic of masami akita (merzbow) playing a show in japan to a huge cellar of freezing, and kneeling japs in jackets clinging to themselves (i'd hire porn actresses to act out bondage scenes on stage if i was him)...if i ever got off my lazy ass and finished up my abulm, and updated my internet sites, and contacted my performace arts homies, i'm totally going to go for stage theatrics (as much as i can afford/they can do). infact in a few months i'm (hopefully if things go well) going to start djing, and am definatly going to find a way to put on a show...somehow...i'm not sure as to what yet...and i'm poor at the moment :). |

THe article was so true indeed. I would never pay to see a laptop artist. Except maybe aphex, but he doesnt claim to play live tho, he just do these DJ sets now adays wich I think is good. Its better if these laptop dudes say they going to DJ not play live, then people will probably dance or enjoy the music n not just stand there staring like a prick at the artist. Its cool if u add some nice effects n stuff with your lap top, sequence it n shit that just adds to the performence but next time "claim a dj set". I rather sit home and enjoy the music with my banging soundsystem drinking beer n smoking weed, than going out looking like a retard staring at a dude looking down on his laptop (thats what I do all day long anyway). |

Maybe....if its some dam good visuals, the artist interacts wit the crowd, the artist looks at the crowd, the artist dance like a crazy maniac behind his laptop, nods his head, laugh behind the laptop, screams behind the laptop, suddenly jumps behind the lap top, have these crazy dancing dudes in costumes, have these fly ass strippers, share his weed, talk with the crowd, adds some cool ass effects, play some chords on the laptop, throw the mouse at the crowd, crash the laptop on the floor (hard rock style baby ;) |

Meho: YEAH Squarepusher!! thats my man! I would go see him with out a DOUBT! I heard his Coachella live performence!!I was crazy, he mixed the track like "ooh shit" adding a lot of fx looping the track in a different way etc (like making a remix live). Itt was nice in the good ol days when he played live bass on scene too. He always drunk as funk on stage wich is kinda nice, sharing his vodka n stuff like that... Yeah Square, AFX n BOC but thats it. |

if u need an elaborate show to keep u entertained, go to a circus ..or maybe a Backstreet Boys concert on the other hand.. people going to RDJ or autechre shows are probably going just to hear the music, and maybe see how they make it i dont want to see tom jenkinson in some tight outfit prancing around the stage |
