performence to Autechre (one of my favourite
groups)......hehe.

I apprecitate both those groups equal tho.

i think if you pay 20 bucks, and sometimes even drive a
couple hours to see a show you should get some kind of SHOW.
if it's just about the sound then why don't the artists
pre-record the shows and send the tapes into the clubs. or
perform live over the radio. what's the point of them even
being there if they are invisible anyway? at the very least
they should have some images projected behind them like
plaid. or dudes wrastling in bear suits like afx. i saw the
autechre show in Vancouver; drove up there to a good venue
(sonar) rather than see them in seattle; and i was very
dissappointed to see nothing but smoke and glowing apples.
not to mention the music was pretty 1 dimensional. i felt
kind of cheated because these dudes never tour the U.S and
the one time i got to see them, there was nothing to see.
i like autechre a lot but they are a couple lazy bastards.

an excellent and heavily electronic act to see live is
"Man...or Astro Man?"
these guys are like a surf metal devo kraftwerk thrash
band.
and they can put on a fucking show. i own none of their
albums but i have seen them live 3 times and they never
dissappoint.

another great live band who knows how to put on a show is
fucking GWAR.
again i own none of their music and wouldn't even consider
downloading their music but their shows are among the most
enjoyable experiences of my young life.

these electronic guys must have some friends that know how
to do some stage antics. i say, BRING THEM WITH YOU ON
TOUR. HERE WE ARE NOW! ENTERTAIN US! you fucking lazy
bastards.

I've never seen them live, but their music is nice. Sci-fi
surf music :)

Sadly my cd was stolen by some local heroinists.

see them live dude. if they ever go to norway. they do a
song where they put a microphone up to a dot matrix printer
and the noise it makes is a cover of some metal song. they
all have it memorized and they "sing along" to it too.
"wheee beep beep beep wirr wirrrr wirrrr beep beep beep
jigun jigun wheee wheee beeeeep beeeeep."
its fucking awsome.... seriously...

ok, I go see rock bands live quite often. They're fun and
all, but that kind of music is not really my thing. I
recently went to see plaid and mira calix on their north
american tour. I loved it. It's not that the show was
outstanding, (they actually crashed their computer a few
times) it was just the fact that ed and andy were making the
music. that's why I'll continue to enjoy electronic show's
no matter what people say.

If I go see a band, it's usually more of the jazzy funky
type....and when you see that music, with a ton of
improvisation, the simple fact that at any moment, anything
can happen...even the musicians don't know it's going to
happen....

they can go off on tangents, then somehow come together all
at once, and everyone's pleasantly surprised.....

Maybe, sometime in the future, we'll beable to somehow hook
up our frontal lobes to our sequencers, on stage, and
through some sort of telepathy, be able to improvise our
beats and tones in real time...right there....that would be
tight...

I haven't read this whole thread but I agree 100%. I saw
plaid live and the music was simply amazing, but they were
not. It made the whole experience less interactive and
enjoyable.

if i ever had a live show...
i would have all these midi-controlled muppets up on
stage...either dancing or set up to look like they were
playing weird instruments...like a dr seuss-ian orchestra

and then maybe have a bunch of people dressed in big fuzzy
suits like big bird or something come out in run around
through the audience

or i was thinking if i had a hardcore show...i would have no
lights..except maybe some strobe lights...and fill the whole
place with that stage smoke stuff...so no one could
see...and have people dressed in big fuzzy suits run around
assaulting people in the audience
..and then of course i would use really deep bass
frequencies to make people throw up...

heh..it would be funny to incorperate these two types of
shows into one...have it start off funny and weird with the
muppet orchestra...and some nice quarky music...then start
pumping in the smoke...and have the lights come off and let
the madness and confusion ensue... :D

...it does have lack of stage presence, but then, if i want
a hard live show, i´d choose a punk gig or
something....just fast and furious...a NIN concert....i
dunno, it´s like when you choose to go to an "IDM" gig,
you´re mainly going for the music.....although it sucks
paying 20 bucks to watch a geek play around with his
laptop.....

*wee_boy confused*

the essence of a good show is not how the person dances or
looks or jumps or any crap like that. ive seem some amazing
crap in my life and it wasnt because the band "put on a good
show" and it wasnt even cause they sounded good but the mood
just hit hard and made everyone in the room just...(insert
perfect word here).
the same can be for electronic music.

i on the other hand get alot of joy watching someone click
away at their computer and turn knobs. i dont know why that
is.

but my point is, a good show has nothing to do with the
performance. its witnessing something amazing happening
that even the artist seems to end up standing in shock from
what just happened.

My band has a gig on sunday. But I don't think we're any fun
seeing live. My guitar and bass players are just nodding
their heads as they play, and I kick a lot of shit but I'm
just a drummer, how much of a stage show can I put without
ruining the seriousness of the overall situation...
