this is going to be the slowest album listening experience
I've ever experienced.

its a tad too long, however that synth sounds like some
radio signal from the arctic.. im getting good associations
with this track.

interesting track, but i'm not a fan. yet

I'm at my second job right now so I can't listen until I
come home....grrr...

Sounds promising though from what you say and the price
seems decent enough so that's good.

I just got myself an iPod nano... what should I do? Just buy
the mp3's or buy the FLACs and do a V0 conversion using
dbpoweramp? [NERD ALERT!]

The PLC ccc is kinda... yeah... I hoped for better, but it's
probably a grower. The 20 minute epic if you stick this
after The Plcpc or whatever from the limited edition is nice
though.

to me, it really depends on the mood i'm in. if i put on my
basic channel listening cap, i'm loving it more and more
each. if i put on my idm thinking cap, i'm almost bored to
death.

music shouldn't be about thinking, it's about listening.

If you find it dull, then it is dull.

whats the deal with the flacs.
i mean if you are gonna be listening on your ipod and
probably itunes at home then why not get mp3?

its like always saving fotos as .tiff cause its lossless.
if you use .jpeg at highest quality you wont see the
difference.

well, flacs let you convert back to wav and then you can
encode the mp3 into whatever bitrate you want. bleep.com
used to use the right vbr switch within lame, but they
buckled under pressure from all the "deejays" to switch to
320kbps - an utterly pointless bitrate for mp3s considering
-v2 will give the same results with smaller files. i often
buy flacs online just so i can encode them to mp3 myself.

besides that, i like flacs simply because they're the
undiluted, original waveform of how the music was intended
to be heard. i can't really hear much beyond 17khz but
wavs/flacs satisfy the placebo effect i sometimes need with
music :)

Good point! just what I needed to hear. But what's the
difference between V2 and V0? .....and other V's for that
matter...

offline xceque on 2008-05-19 13:59 [#02208258]
Points: 5888 Status: Moderator | Show recordbag

Because:

with flacs you are sure to get best quality.

you know for a fact that the squidgy noise at 3:17 that's
just soooo awzsomez33 is supposed to be there and is not a
product of mp3 compression

you are never in doubt what level of compression you're
getting before you get them

you can easily convert to any other lossless format
losslessly

and to any lossy format with no less loss than ripping from
cd (and so put them on your ipod if that's what you like)

you're paying for the original sound, not the cack
equivalent of a tape copy of the original

you get something that, sometime in 'the future', you can
convert to whatever much-better-than-mp3 format comes along

flacs together with a converter gives you the mp3.

i've run out of whatever type of energy is used when being
arsed to do something.

lame switches

V0 offers slightly higher bitrate averages and a higher
lowpass filter (meaning the higher frequencies up to around
20khz are left intact). Generally though, it is
near-impossible to tell the difference between -V2 and -V0,
at least in blind listening tests for me.

320kbps is pointless. i'd rather just use flac in that case.

"comprising 140 minutes of new music!"

this is insane! ae released so little material during the
past few years (for my liking). and now, out of nowhere,
they've pulled out a machigun and are firing from every
angle.

2008's been real good so far music-wise.

The Plc ccc: I like it. Really nice mood to the track.
Reminds me of some of their earlier, more repetitive stuff,
like Anvil Vapre, or VL AL 5- to use a more recent example.

I keep thinking I can hear these tiny little vocal samples
in the background. I'm not sure if they're really there.
