What is up with the opening silence on the first track from
each album? Maybe its so you can have time to find a seat
and don your phones before the album kicks in.

theres one at the beginning of gantz graf aswell, and
confield

but yeah i liken it to the same as when youre at an opera,
and all the players is getting their shit tuned, except they
are sort of materializing aswell. untilteds is different but
cool

I reckon it's to simulate putting the needle on a record and
waiting for it to get past the lead-in groove. also, on a
lot of autechre tracks with very long fadeouts, you can keep
increasing the volume to keep listening till the end.

I think it's simply because of timing - they decide when the
track really begins. also, they'll have your undevided
attention after a few seconds. or that's how it could work,
at least.

More cohesive. The 'silence' isn't really silence, but very
close to it. More smooth.

yeah, I think you're right. but that's not really the point
though, I think.

it's more about the contrast of very low volume and the
track bursting into full volume. or something.

..

time for some coffee, perhaps.

I was thinking in terms of texture and shape I guess, not
contrast or dynamics.
