I just heard this on an internet radio station. Damn,
that's a good song! One of Autechre's best... and
old-school, too!

I'm tempted to say it's their all-time greatest track, but I
know there's probably another AE tune that's one better. I
just can't think of a better AE song out there right now.

It's one of the few redeeming qualities of Incunabula.

Anyone agrees?

normal. cheers

yeah, it does sound quite tame and "normal" compared to how
AE has evolved. Even here and other tracks on Incunabula
(like Maetl) I can hear the glitchy elements of their more
fucked-up material that would develop later on.

yup, it can be heard some digression from the Aphex theme
already. the voices of that track are greta. i think that VI
Scose Poise has something to do with this: LAZY_TITLE

YES! Thanks Exaph! We've got someone ready to commit 444 as
AE's best tune.

ae never really excite me. fav tracks are kalpol introl,
uviol, parhelic triangle, 444 is pretty nice listening to it
now, stop look listen is good, draft 7.30 has a few golden
tracks (reniform puls). No others really spring to mind at
the mo. the rest of ae dosn't really ever strike me, i
always like little bits of tracks but not really the track
as a whole. Parhelic triangle and kalpol introl are my favs.

kalpol introl is really good actually best track on
incunabula. even if the tracks on this aren't right up my
street i still like this older ae style.

Until Quaristice "444" didn't have much competition with
other AE tunes as being the most beautiful ...except perhaps
Draun Quarter, VI Scose Poise, and Drane2. (some others I
might have missed)

Now with the new album I'd add Altibzz and Notwo to the list

Altibzz is alright but kalpol introl is nicer. Quaritice is
bland and grating. I keep wanting to give it another listen
and every time i do it hurts.

listening to autechre on youtube is a sin

listening to 444 on youtube requires you to have your cock
chopped off, so that a madman can extricate the flaccid
skin, slice it down the middle so as to unroll it, stretch
it, and then add it to the other cockskinz that have been
gathered, in the hopes that a peniscockskin-mask can be made

How about Netlon Sentinal?

There are some dry filler tracks on there for sure. The
tracks that are strong, for instance 1 & 3, are as good as
most anything of LP5 or EP7 imo. Chiastic is important
though because it is where they start to really shift into
experimental mode.

---

Incunabula is pretty good for early 90s AFX or Cabaret
Voltaire. 444 and Eggshell are two of my fav tracks on
there. It is no where near as developed/interesting as
their later stuff though imo, although I can see why some
who aren't as keen on glitch might prefer it.

"Chiastic is important though because it is where they start

I agree. Autechre truly distinguish themselves on that
record. Unfortunately it's a weak start. They hit their
stride with LP5.

"How about Netlon Sentinal?'

hmm, I gotta give that one a spin again. Although I'd like
to add Pir to the list of beautiful tracks.

ok, so far we've submitted the following as AE's beautiful
tracks...

444
Rae
Pir
Krib
Netlon Sentinal
Draun Quarter
VI Scose Poise
Drane2
Altibzz
Notwo

there were other tracks listed above not on this list
because i don't think they were being claimed as beautiful.
if i got your intentions wrong just yell at me and i'll
update the list.

their more "accessible" tunes.
