You've avoided using the term IDM, but made yourself look
even more stupid by saying 'Electronica', a term simply
invented by the clueless American media. Just say
electronic.

listening to that also release on net labels and hard copy
labels too...

I couldn't be bothered to read any of this, but I was
listening to Multiples by Keith Fullerton Whitman, which I
think probably comes under experimental electronica (?)
Well, it's great music. He plays around with oscillators,
synths, cymbals, electric pianos and its a joy to listen
to.
I guess you could call it electro-acoustic or something.
Doesn't matter, it's brilliant.
boomkat has samples

No thanks to leather strip or the artists I was being
serious about?

Have you listened to Not Breathing?

His last CD was on sublight, and features Jack Dangers (Meat
Beat Manifesto) and Mark Spybey (Dead Voices on Air,
Download). He makes most of his own gear and his stuff is a
mix of drone/noise stuff with hard electronics.

Why does it matter what you call a genre of music? I thought
it was supposed to be the music itself that counts. The
debate between IDM and Experimental Electronic is one thing
(not a fan of the term IDM), but arguing over calling it
Electronic or Electronica seems like splitting hairs
to me.

When I think of IDM I think of the stuff that came after the
Artificial Intelligence series. It is electronic music that
tends toward being a bit cerebral or heady. It has its
strongest roots in UK club music, although it may flirt with
experimental/noise/musique concrete etc.

There are experimental electronic artists that I would
hesitate to call IDM. Meat Beat Manifesto, Scorn, Download,
Coil, Pan Sonic, etc. are all electronic and are often
experimental, but I guess I wouldnt think to call them IDM
because I don't associate them with that scene or those
labels.

Electronica is a term as broad as rock or pop, and includes
people like Paul Oakenfold, Darren Emerson and The Crystal
Method as much as it does Autechre and Aphex Twin.

In any case take a look at this list of electronic music styles. There are A
LOT of sub genres there, too many to keep track of. To me,
if I am trying to describe an artist, it is easier to site
other similar artists or influences than a category.

my view has changed significantly since last year this time.
i have become way to cool too care about categorization.

seriously tho it doesn't matter. an artist either appeals
to my sensibilities or they don't. i'm done trying to
figure out what to call it or how to talk about it.
