Thanks for saving me the trouble.

~
I'm sick of topics on this board like this. Any intelligent
discussion going on? No, just you twats parading your
knowledge of semantics around to make sure you look like
more of an internet asshole than everyone else. Well done, I
must say.

who ever thinks that this is wrong, should join the
military!! how much innocent people died in the world trade
center? i don't like war but sometimes, people ask for it!!
the more people complain about this, the more the enemy will
see how soft we are and try to take advantage of it!! it
shows a sign of weakness!! Remember that they were
celebrating the destruction of the towers, etc... so, USA,
stay strong!!!

Wow. You're not helping things at all. I would write about
how much I disagree with you and why I think you are
seriously in need of a good talking-to, but I am tired and I
doubt it would change anything anyway.

"sometimes, people ask for it!!"

I'll just say this. Do you think the 21 civilians who were
killed today by their own countrymen "asked for it"?

Wow, the British soldiers beating kids vid is waaaaay worse.
If those were American soldiers that vid would have 3000 +
comments. Goes to show people aren't really concerned about
the children. They are concerned with the politics and their
own inner grudge match with America.

eh

the british soldiers beating kids got lots of attention and
debate and negative exposure, just as much as the americans
doing stuff like that, but maybe american media didn't focus
on it too much?

and how the fuck does any of this show that people aren't
concerned about the children? Without the children, the
video would be a soldier holding a bottle out of the back of
the truck; we are reacting because he is taunting the
children.

I never saw the video mentioned or shown anywhere else but
youtube. I guess American media doesn't concentrate on what
everyone else does, which I like.

I guess because what's going on everywhere else in the world
(usually) doesn't affect me as much as what's going on here.
I can find out online what's happening in the rest of the
world, but I like sitting down to watch the news and seeing
what's going on in my own region. I know it makes me sound
like a self-centered American bastard, but that's what I
like.

the difference probably lies in the fact that this vid seems
to have originated on youtube while the other one started
out on newspaper sites instead. Also, the british soldiers
vid has 397 comments. Another fun fact is that maybe 50% of
the comments on the american vid is americans saying you
shouldn't believe all soldiers or all americans are "like
that" or somehow trying to justify the soldiers actions.

You people need to stop thinking people are attacking you
personally and fucking do something about your nations
assholes.

More war attrocities.

The kids getting a beating was wrong, but I don't think it
had the same degree of shock as the water bottle incident,
even though the beating inflicted more pain than getting out
of breath running. I wouldn't try to degrade another human
being by making them run for water, that to me seems very
sadistic. I would, however, give someone a kicking for
throwing rocks at me. Perhaps not such a "ganging up" one,
or to the same "kicking in the nuts while they're down"
level of severity, or indeed against children so young, but
it's a bit more understandable to me. I'd also say that
regardless of my age, if I was throwing rocks at occupying
forces, I'd consider anything other than a bullet in the
head as getting off lightly.

As to the incidence being ignored. Not at all, I remember
hearing about this several times on the news/in papers. It's
just that it was probably reported more here in Britain as
it's British troops. The waterbottle incident wasn't
something I was aware of, because it wasn't reported half as
much here. I mean, if they reported every attrocity by
American troops, we'd have no time on telly for Corrie.

I vote, but its a silly thing to think that voting democrat
is really going to make any real changes. It might lessen
things a bit, but there is so much corruption where do you
begin? You have to raise millions to even run for president.
That's not good. That you have to accept shit loads of money
from god knows who in order to gain power. That's just on
the surface. God knows what is really going on. I think most
Americans that have a modicum of intelligence feel
emasculated by the whole system and would rather scrap it
all and start over again.

they aren't real alternatives right now, but hey! could that
be because no-one is voting for them because they aren't
real alternatives?

Well, one would imagine that given there are more than ten
time more American troops there than British ones, even if
the American troops were of stiffer moral fibre than their
British equivalents and indulged in only half as many of
this sort of act, per capita, there would still be more than
five times as many attrocities commited by American soliders
than British ones. Once you couple this with the fact that
far more American troops carry DV cameras than British ones
and hence capture this sort of incident on film more often,
it's hardly suprising there are more videos of the Americans
behaving badly than the British. That doesn't make the
British wrong-doing any worse. It is simply one of several
reasons why not every American incident like this (which,
for whatever reason, there are undeniably vastly more of)
makes our national news.

As an aside: I don't get my knickers in a twist over the
British video, because the soldiers in it do not represent
me: People can criticise them all they like, it doesn't
bother me in the least. What I don't understand is why you
feel this criticism of your country's troops actions upsets
you so much. If you were in favour of their
behaviour, or someone had said, "all Americans do this, all
the time." I could understand it.

interested in before we heard the conclusion...

they should have some kind of collective punishment where
for each time someone did something stupid and they couldn't
find out who it was they'd just give all the soldiers in the
region an electric shock or two

Maybe its cause the stupid fat American European inside joke
is not a secret anymore and its gotten old. Its made me
defensive and reflexive in the face of hyper criticism of
Americans by Europeans cause it always comes off as veiled
attempt at reinforcing these archetypes.
You mention voting for a different party. Well, I agree, but
again these parties are operating under the same rule book.
Funding. Doing the bidding of others. Money is the root of
all evil my friend. There is also that "a vote for Nader is
a vote for Bush" conundrum.

I think any real "punishment" as such would be unjust as
there would be soldiers there who not only played no part,
but didn't know who did it. I think a better way of dealing
with it (or encouraging those who know who it was to come
forward with info) would be a withdrawal of priviliges- no
beer for a week, hold letters from home back for a week,
etc.

Even then, that'd suck a bit. I used to hate collective
punishment in school as I'd always own up before it got to
that stage if it was threatened, whereas few others seemed
to have such scruples and we were routinely punished for
others actions.

Bogala: I had an American friend to stay last week; she was
at least as intelligent as I am and was as skinny as a rake.
I think the perception that all Europeans think all
Americans are fat and stupid, or indeed that we even dislike
Americans as a whole is an innacurate one. I also think
comically obese, pigshit-thick American civilians is a
seperate issue to that of brutality and human rights
infringements by their armed forces.
