richard devine and autechre in my opinion are hardly
comparable with the exception of asect dsect which has
obvious autechre inspired rhythms and note and or chord
progressions within melodies and anti-melodies. autechre's
work tends to contain more depth and a broader range of
sound design and character both in sound and arrangments.
richard devine is generally faster and more meticulous with
frequency hand grenades being tossed about the mix he does
tends to be predictable with sound design and arrangment
agreeing with Zephyr_Nova up above... but he has his place
and can be fun. personally if i had THAT kind of home studio
i would definately be exploring more techniques and craft
both in sound design and engineering and in arrangments.
as to the comment left above by Trewq hes actually a pretty
nice guy i dont understand the american/british throw-down
thats so 1997.

Well, autechre's main influences are mostly American. Read
an interview.

Pattelle is the one for me...just that right bakance between
constantly changing and having some loops in there to
provide an anchor of sorts...

Pattelle is me is the way drum n bass would sound if
Kraftwerk had continued moving forward instead of getting
lost in their own mythos...

Techno, to me, has to be music that sounds like it's been
beamed back from some distant time - that goes doubly for
Intelligent Techno - cutting edge - I want my mind to be
be-overwhelmed sometimes with the ultra modern and RD hits
that spot more often than anyone else I can name - he up
with Aphex in my book...

I'd love to meet the guy as I feel he's a bit of a soulmate
- even if that does sound creepy....

Id like to meet aphex, but I know what he would say to me
already

Erm..so inspiration is out then? Bagging Devine for doing Ae
inspired stuff? Well how about bagging Paradinas for doing
Richardesque stuff...and so on and so forth...

This is pretty ridiculous attitude really.

yeah and if you dont get bagged for resembling your
inspirations you'll get bagged for the process in which you
made your music, versus the result of the process

Well funny that people keep relating Ae as an inspiration
for Devine..while I first picked up Lipswitch because it was
the closest thing to the awesome might of A SHOCKING HOBBY
by Speedy J...a truly singular album as even Speedy J never
ventured that hard heavy and deep after having made
that...Devine's best tracks are all about crushing metallic
grooves that unspool like shrapnel from a hand
grenade...pretty much a blueprint laid down by A SHOCKING
HOBBY...while Autechre are well..(swoon) Autechre...
I think the closest point of reference to Devines sound is
Big Beat..and comparing it Autechre is like comparing
Psychedelic rock to hardcore punk...

well with all things considered, Devine is NOT Autechre.
But he is VERY similar to Eight Frozen Modules (who I dont
think gets enough discussion here).

Time to time, I actually prefer 8FM, but his ragga break
shit is kinda whack

Yeah patelle is the one track I go back and listen to.

I'm just not intelligent enough for his other stuff. It's
like math homework that makes my ears hurt.

Devine proves to me its harder to write a wonderful melody
than to send 8 thousand midi messages to a stack of high
priced equipment. Id take one avril 14 for his whole
catalog. No offense to his fans.
