No, postmodernist is just someone out there to bludff his
way through life. None of the authors I respect don't call
themselves that.

truth is just a word - it needs a word like lie to define it
- and words are obselete when you leave planet earth

Oh, yeah, but there's for instance this question: does
non-linguistic knowledge exist? Can you actually know
something and not being able to shape it in words?

Jonesy: So, you've read the article?

Of it, I haven't read the article itself. I really need to
read first. I do find it fascinating. I intend to read some
more tonight. I wish I had the internet at home so that I
could read stuff without buying it.

Do you find much time to read? I spent my whole degree
winging about not being able to read what I wanted and now I
don't make the time.

I spend a lot of time doing political stuff.

Uh, I find it I have frustratingly little time to read, plus
some of this stuff really needs a lot of concentration. I'll
see if i can find that article on the web for you...

Anyway, my workday's over so i have to go, man, so, I'll
catch up with you tomorrow. Cheers.

Can anyone remember when it was still considered funny to
write "Message in a Bottle" or "Walking on the Moon" on
application forms when asked if you had a Police
Record?....

I've a theory it was this minor jokette that caused the
massive unemployment during the late 70s/early 80s....

PS... You can't get more PostModern than discussing
Baudrillard in a thread about The Police on a Aphex Twin
message board....congrats all round..:)..

Straits, ahem...

Ugh, are you serious (as in: only half-joking)? I used to
think, when I was a kid that Dire Straits are such a serious
and deep band. I thought that they had more substance than,
say, Motorhead. What a pretensious little arse I was. Jeses,
I still try make people forget about this... I

offline jonesy from Lisboa (Portugal) on 2002-03-13 12:14 [#00124065]
Points: 6650 Status: Lurker

Yeah Dire Straits are way deeper than Motorhead. Their
dissection of materialisitc rock star lifestyles in the
acutely observed Money for Nothing is a milestone in rock
music. Who says music can't be a critical medium?

"Money for Nothing..
And your Chicks for Free"...

I'm failing to see the acutely observed bit you mention....

I'm sorry - I had an older brother into HIFI and he used to
play fucking Dire Straits all the time to demostrate his
kit...kinda tuff on a sensitive little kid like me...

I still have adoption fantasies...

Aw, I prefer Lemmy's observation of not having to consider
reality as really real, that is, developing an awareness
that facts are just your opinions: like in Ace of Spades:
You know im born to lose, cause gambling is for fools, but
that's the way I like it baby, I donwanna live forever. Pure
Dyonisian happiness as in Nietzche's philosophy.

Fair enough. Me, I really love this German porn flick called

You get porn on national TV. Was that before we bombed your
TV station?

offline Meho Krljic from Beograd (Yugoslavia) on 2002-03-13 12:54 [#00124131]
Points: 6617 Status: Addict

It wasn't on national TV, but on this rather strong regional
TV that has been broadcasting porn every night for several
years before that. But actually, porn was premiered on our
national TV, back in the late 80s. Each saturday nite we had
our share of hardcore. Those were the days, again...

offline jonesy from Lisboa (Portugal) on 2002-03-13 12:56 [#00124135]

Hardcore? I couldn't imagine that in this country.

Oh, yeah, there are some advantages to living here. There's
more hardcore magazines around than daily newspapers.
Although I don't really support porn industry (for obvious
reasons, I think). But when there's no money involved, when
it's an enthusiasm thing, well, great.

Did you know that Foucault used to wear leather trousers and
hang out in gay bars in San francisco. He was no closet
gay!!!

Foucault is a god!!

... and I think you'll find he did a lot more than wear
leather trousers & hang out etc...I've read quite a few bios
of his and he was very deeply into the S/M scene & the
extremes of experience to be found therein....

Look into his writing on Limit Experiences for some insight
into this in his published work...

Who have we got nowdays that even approaches him?...I can't
really think of anybody...and that's real saddening..

Uuuuh, nice to hear so many beautiful things about old
Michelle. Well, I always thought that after he died, somehow
Baudrillard took the flag of true avant garde. But I'm just
his fan, so perhaps should not talk about it. Anyway,
Foucault rules in my book.

I've just been out to lunch. Just been in the loos wanking
over a copy of the Communist Manifesto. The closing line
always makes me come ha, ha.

When did Foucault die? It was AIDS wasn't it?

He looked like a baddie from a James Bond film

And, the last time I was reading Communist Manifesto I was

1984...and yeah, it was from HIV...

He was real active well before they found the means of
infection so if anyone was gonna go, it was gonna be him...

Then again, knowing Foulcault..if he'd known more about HIV,
it would be unlikely to stop him...
