The traditional reasoning of a 'soul' is just utter nonsense that Christians and other weak minded religious noobs created to help them get to sleep at night so they wouldn't stay awake wondering what would happen to them after they die. It's also a scare tactic: Behave in this life and you'll spend an eternity in heaven, if you are a bad person you'll go to hell instead! OH NOES! People have a hard time grasping that death will be exactly like the time before you were born. You wont comprehend or concieve it because in order to experience life you need a brain and without a brain theres no point. Your concept of a soul exists because you have a brain to contemplate it. But its just an idea, you can't physically prove that something called a 'soul' exists, its just an idea. |

it's pretty easy to knock down a straw man. there's a great deal of variation within orthodox judeo-christian tradition, and there's even more variation within the various spiritual traditions that does not match your perception of "what religious people believe about the soul and why they believe it." i'm not religious at all and don't believe in heaven or hell. |
