Sorry mate
Yeah its a very cool film, definately watch it, there are some amazing scenes in it. It gets quite obscure and the soundtrack is quite mechanical and abrasive but its totally Lynch. The "Just like regular chickens" scene is enough to watch it alone. Do you like other Lynch stuff? I have to say my fave is perhaps Wild at Heart which I know a lot don't really like and Mulholland also is mindblowing.
I have to say that all soundtracks by Angelo Badelamenti (sp?) are top class, as is Clint Mansell's stuff. Lost in Translation soundtrack is excellent.

Yes I like his films. Lost Highway was hard to follow even though I enjoyed it alot. The Straight Story is probably my fav. Agree about Angelo Badalamenti. Lynch puts alot of input into the soundtracks as well I believe.

Damn, you guys have good taste. I don't have many more to add. Although I must agree with DaggerHappy about the Wipeout soundtrack. Those games are what made me realize there was music outside of video games.. although the original tunes are fantastic too.
Harold Faltermeyer.. Also anything late 70's and 80's Tangerine Dream stuff.. Flashpoint, Risky Business, Sorcerer, Legend, etc.. Dan, naturally, beat me to the punch :) And then of course lots of early 90's OST like A Perfect Little Murder and Suburban Commando.

I generally prefer real scores to a jumble of tracks I can hear elsewhere. Pi and Lost In Translation being cases in point.
These seem to work in the context of the film, but buying the soundtrack is too often like paying for a sub-par DJ mix.
Kudos to the film makers for neat choices and all, but let me bring out my Akira and Event Horizon, or anything by Danny Elfman or Nobuo Uematsu.

I love when filmmakers make deft choices with licensed/pre-existing music and the songs come to be synonymous with a scene or vice versa. So many great artistic convergences. I like the insight it gives into the filmmaker(s)' heads and feelings about the movies/scenes, too. But yeah I rarely find myself listening to those soundtracks outside the context of the movies themselves. Things get burned into my mind though.
I thought I already mentioned this earlier but a CTRL + F confirms I didn't. The main theme from Yojimbo one of my favorites, and it's so weird... an Eastern heroic theme that SWINGS.
