the funny thing is everyone was saying how hollywood went
over homophobic issues with this one, but i'd pretty much
say gay people like different films..i mean, it was just a
cheesy love story but it was hyped because gay topic is
unusual for hollywood maybe.

well. for me it wasn't gay topic. it was about very strong
friendship that became love and addiction during almost 20
years of their hidden relationship. i suppose many guys have
similar expiriences with other guys, but don't consider them
"gay" or "homosexual".

hollywood promoted it as gay..

also, i don't know anyone straight develope love out of
friendship with one of his mates..i just find it hard to
belive. specially if they're going to have secks with it.

Oh come on, it's not about gay people liking different
films. If anything, it's about the cultural elite wanting to
show us all how very tolerant they are. Yeah it's
hypocritical but it shouldn't matter, and I wouldn't let it
influence my opinion of the film.

right. it didn't influence my opinion btw. i wanted to see
it and i was disappointed. as i said though, i only say like
half of it.

I loved the style of the film, and the story was familiar to
me; I've been in love with a man, without the sex however
(so it is possible, it's something like comraderie). That
was actually the only thing that felt unnatural in the
movie, the first sex scene doesn't seem natural. I'm not
saying sex would be unnatural in the context of the story,
just that the way it was approached seemed rushed and pretty
unrealistic. Bareback Mountain, lol

I experienced this also. Also think their first rough love
in tent was forced and happened because of alcohol they have
been drinking. However after 5 years their kiss in front of
Ennis del Mar house was unbelievable. Anyway - I think this
kind of relations have lots of contradictions and are never
100% understandable.

My Beautiful Laundrette is a great film! Even 'Gayer' is
'Sebastien' which I love! Eno soundtrack with loads of naked
men speaking latin!

Clint Eastwood would roll in his grave.

I remember watching My Beautiful Laundrette when I was a
teenager. It is the only 'gay' film I have watched but it
was OK.

I watched Sebastiane when Channel 4 used to show arty films,
all I recall was some bloke wanking a papier mache phallus
and Roman lads froilicking on the beach. It was hardly "Ben
Hur". More like "Ohhhh, get her".

I can't but I know exactly that scenario.

She smashed the car into a parking meter the other day and
was holding a map upside down like a mirror to where we were
going?

Haha!the best bit is when 'Sebastiane' has a shower and
there's a some music that really 'glistens'! I can't
explain it much more than that! It's like BOC but not
trying to be retro. I gave it a go.

I popped round his garden, not his uphill garden, after he
died, dear boy, in Dungeness. God, that's a bleak bloody
place.

I'll have to give Seb' another go, obviously when NO ONE is
in the house, I can't see me explaining it away on artistic
grounds, not to my family .... I quite like that "Blue" one
he did as well. Well ambient, innit.

Or was it Fellini's Satyricon

yeah, it is very cinematic piece of art. I love
cinematography there. Funny thing: "Brokeback..." and
"Happy..." were both shot by Asians.
