pure electronics of a vaguely dance-ish and/or
quasi-patterned nature (read: eyedeeemm) has been pretty
terminally boring for several years now.

fucking backpackers are much more miss than hit.

and contrary to popular opinion... rock music is not picking
up the slack when it comes to non-suckage.

country music is better than this thread, and bluegrass is
better than everything made in the 80s.

That's not the truth. Mainly EP7 and Confield. I didn't
think Draft or Untilted were at all.

Okay Mr Bjork hater.

By the way, I don't understand the connection between Wesley
Willis and Hendrix.

Agreed. Their argument that's it's not random as they're all
generated by a repetable process is merely semantics: If you
don't set the dials of a synth yourself, IE it's generative,
it's largely down to chance. My basis for this is that you
can't actually imagine how twisting the dial will alter the
sound, hence "random" (even if it's not 100% random in a
mathematical sense).

My other controversial music opinions:

Nothing Bjork has done other than "All is Full of Love" has
really been very good at all.

90% of Squarepusher's output is boring. He does do some
killer tracks, but you could easily make one album of "must
have" tracks of his whole back catalogue.

Everything Cyclob has done since Rewind has been pretty
weak.

Transillusion - L.I.F.E is one of the worst records, ever
and it's clearly vanity publishing. There is no way this was
released on merit alone and I'd be hard pressed to name an
amateur music maker on here who has done a worse track.

LFO - Millionaire Dogs is criminally under appreciated and
is about 100 times better than similar autechre tracks.

Autechre - Vltrmx is the only truly moving piece they've
done. Nothing they've done since is as good as the garbage
ep.

Nothing Global Goon has done since "long whiney" has been as
good as that, even though his new material has still been
quality.

Analord could easily of been a 2 disk ten track release and
you'd not be missing much. Hell, a single with #10 and Bwoon
Dub is all you really need.

Smojphace was a sick joke.

Dirqual's - Tolerable Cruelty was the best idm album of last
year.

sigor ros is for people that like couples kissing before the
movie ends. sigor ros is for hopeless romantics that suck.
sigor ros is cheazy as hell. sigor ros is for momma's boys
and picky sensitive slackers. i kind of like sigor ros.

there's nothing terrific about IDM. aphex is overrated.
boc is overrated. small IDM labels are overrated. it's all
overrated over appreciated music that works it's magic for
awhile but doesn't last long. ae, however, is
underappreciated. people that listen strictly to IDM or
experimental types of music have no imagination. i still
like IDM.

the internet is the worst thing to happen to music. i use
it a lot.

people that listen exclusively to idm or experimental music
can't handle real passion. they can't admit, due to
inability to comprehend, that some bands rock so hard, and
the musicianship is soo tight, and it's filled with WAY more
musical nuances then even the most complex IDM song is.
bands like led zeppelin, the grateful dead, the clash, bob
dylan, jimi hendrix, the beach boys, sunny day real estate,
the talking heads, david bowie, siouxsie and the banshees,
the beastie boys, ornette coleman, john coltrane, miles
davis... some of those i listed i don't even listen to, but
you get what i'm trying to say...

i'm not talking about anyone in particular... more so the
IDM vibe.

"arovane sucks. every arovane song is boring"

No but I agree that usually there is only one stand-out
track on each Arovane release. As opposed to someone like
Jega who can whip out a consistently bangin' album or The
Flashbulb who really knows how to order tracks effectively
for a consistent record.
