just finished listening...
...not bowled over, also worried it's too straightforward to be a grower.
Oh well, plenty more fish in the sea.

i really like it.
It is straightforward, but thats not a bad thing. Complex and difficult listening isn't always as rewarding as something such as this.
But its not a patch on geogaddi, esp not mhtrtc.

that's Variable Bit Rate for you - in fact, the bit rate constantly shifts during the track, but most players don't show that - I think winamp does, it gives everyone the shifts.
from wikipedia:
"Variable bit rates (VBR) are also possible. Audio in MP3 files are divided into frames (which have their own bit rate) so it is possible to change the bit rate dynamically as the file is encoded (although not originally implemented, VBR is in extensive use today). This technique makes it possible to use more bits for parts of the sound with higher dynamics (more sound movement) and fewer bits for parts with lower dynamics, further increasing quality and decreasing storage space. This method compares to a sound activated tape recorder which reduces tape consumption by not recording silence. Some encoders utilize this technique to a great extent."

so is it worth $9 to download something i already downloaded once for free at 192k?
or will the clarity be notably better if i just go buy the CD?

that kind of depends. can you hear the difference between a high VBR mp3 and a cd? do you care? do you like the idea of having it on cd, with artwork and everything?
(high VBR is the best quality mp3 can be)

buy the cd and rip it at whatever bitrate you prefer.

i can rarely tell the difference between mp3 formats actually. well except when it's really obvious.
i guess i'm leaning toward CD anyways. if i'm gonna pay actual money for something, i guess i'd like the actual thing. the thing man. it's the thing that i want. and i'm not really interested in BOC's version of flying toasters or whatever screen saver they're offering.
