naw, it's more like i wanna give them a fair shot, because i
find most of their stuff takes a few listens to really
enjoy... but i feel that way about a lot of stuff...

No, its a well meant effort to meet up..I'm never rude
unless people show no respect.

Draft was somewhat of a "grower" for me, but i was
intrigued
by it first listen, i did not enjoy listening to most of the
songs all the way through. Over a months time i begin to
appreciate the album much more, and started listening to it
more than any Autechre album.

When i first sat down to listen to Untilted, i was in
absolute disbelief that it was Autechre. This has never
happened before when listening to a new autechre album,
because usually the skills and trademark creativity are very
apparant immediatly upon listening. I was still in doubt of
whether it was really them until Warp put Fermium on the
homepage.
As it stands now, Untilted is my least favorite release of
Autechre so far, i'd rather listen to Cavity job.

different strokes for different folks.....

really? this is the sort of comment that makes me think
maybe there was two versions of untilted on cd. because to
me, not only does untilted sound exactly like autechre, it
sounds like a great continuation of draft. not necessarily
"the next step" (like confield to draft), but perhaps a
sidestep. a tangent or something. if someone played me the
music without telling me what it was, i'd have said wow it's
the new autechre, this is great. if you don't like it,
that's well and good, but that reaction strikes me as a bit
odd, frankly.

there are not 2 versions of untilted, besides that fake
first leak. I know for sure im listening to the official
warp release.
I could see how it sounds like a sidestep from draft, and
not the next step. This is probably what threw me off, im
always expecting autechre to move to the next step, and
innovate further.
When i heard Untilted on mp3 for the first time i thought i
was listening to someone trying to clone Autechre's style,
like another skam artist. Especially LCC, augmatic
disport, and the first minute of Sublimit (sounds like a
vsnares outtake) which sound very amateurish compared to
most autechre's previous works imo.

well, i will say that when i heard the mp3's on bleep, i
didn't get into it much at all. i thought the mp3s were
pretty boring. but to my ears, the difference between the
mp3s and the cd is huge. the cd sounded incredible right
away to me.

The mp3s i downloaded on soulseek were variable bit rate,
and indistinguishable from the CD that i purchased from
Rasputin records.
Either you have super human hearing, or the mp3s you got
were of low quality or not encoded properly.

well a cd you can play on better systems and such, i only
had the leaked mp3s and even they sounded good when i burned
them to cd and started playing in the car and on the system

goodness.

I too still prefer Draft.. both that and Untilted do sound
better loud though... as do pretty well all IDM related
releases. Draft is nice in the car, with booming bass. yes

ive read probably all of the recent interviews
this what i gathered from reading the interviews -

1) the album is boring
2) they are running out of ideas
3) they say the mp3s sound like shit compared to cd to avoid
embarassment
4) they dont like being interviewed
5) they used hardware for this new album
6) they like wearing snowboarding clothes

i didn't gather much else.

FO: Do you see much of Rauschenberg now?

MF: No. For me to look at art now would be like Lenin coming
back and seeing that everything had become 'radical chic'
when they talk revolution. And when Bob wants to do some
kind of funky cardboard box it just does not look good on
those expensive walls. Don't like it.

FO: You collaborated with him once, though, for the
Cunningham ballet Summer Space in 1966.

MF: If you call it a collaboration. It was the most
incredible collaboration I've ever been involved with in my
life. I didn't see the dance. I just asked Merce to tell me
the time structure which I then decided to regulate in
various ways, in other ways, and change the structures like
oilcloth. If the dance was taking a little longer he would
be a little slower. You know Cage's lecture on
'Indeterminacy'[1] ... so it's like an oilcloth but with
plenty of material to work with, to either shorten or
lengthen. The image of the dance really came from Bob, a
conversation I had with Rauschenberg on the telephone,
rather than getting it from the dance. Bob told me that the
set was pointillistic and that he would use the same colours
to paint the costumes. That gave me an idea also: rather
than having three scenes going - Merce, Bob and myself - I
decided to melt into the decor. So the score is
pointillistic.[2]

FO: So that's a direct motivation from an idea of
Rauschenberg's?

MF: Yes, he was responsible for me having to decide, should
I be more characteristically Feldman, like a kind of velvety
back-drop? So I decided to go for sets and costumes. And so
it's not a characteristic score of mine. But the ballet
looks very beautiful, just perfect, like you get a little
speck in your eye and you wipe it away. It makes it even
more frontal because you are having all this thing,
vibrating there, and then out in front there's the band
going. And it wasn't until the dress rehearsal that I
actually saw what was going on.

GB: That's fairly characteristic of Cunningham working with
musicians and other

They do seem a bit dull in the latest interviews. Like they
just aimlessly make tunes and don't give a shit about the
direction of the album or anything much about.

However, I've always enjoyed Untilted and apart from the
lack of atmospherics and nice melodies, it's a really fun
and enjoyable release. Much better than Draft imo.

lol, I know they just make tunes.

But they seem to underplay the effort or time or
construction that goes into their music.

And what's wrong with having other aims in your music, or
having things to express through music? Even Venetian Snares
explains things like that.

I guess they want the music to speak for itself.

I think with anything abstract, you yearn for an
"explination". I have the same attitude towards David Lynch
interviews....he too seems somewhat careless and unable to
explain why he does anything. But I still love his films.

Girls shouldnt have hair below their eyelashes because it
usually gets waxed anyways.

Most girls (85-90%?) that i have encountered have been
completely shaved/waxed. It usually results in happyness
because i dont get hair on my tounge. Its more pleasurable
to slide your hands down some girls pants and not get caught
in some stealwool nest of death.
