out of curiosity, which reynols did you grab... their stuff
is pretty wildly varied... drone work with Pauline Oliveiros
in one, the sound of their deportation papers being played
while hung from a line of string in another... the sound of
a tea kettle ensemble in yet another... and then of course
their are the crazy dirgelike stylings of a lot of their
more "bandy" work with lovely little Tomasin's disturbing
vocals at the foreground...

the heroine sheiks

shannon selberg from the cows - it's basically his show.
one of the best and most unique bands currently rocking.
their lp siamese pipe is a masterpiece. norman westberg
from the swans played guitar on all their recordings to
date, but he left the band in '03. they're absolutely
excellent live.

"Boat-Woman-Sing".
And it's really freaky... Awesome, but freaky.

Voodoo village. :)

Otherwize... Every music is unique in itself.

not quite like that one, and not online. i need to edit them
since they are ripped from a tape and have a lot of hiss...
and i'm afraid they don't have much rhythm, as well as
melody and so on:)))

the lyrics are brilliant at times. so darkly funny, and the
way he delivers them...

Well hello,
How are you doing?
What are you watching?
You’re looking so pretty - how was your day?
My, you don’t say….
You say you went shopping, alone is that so?
Well, I heard different
I’d like t o oblige you
And lay in your arms but
We’re gonna fight - yeah, we’re gonna fight
We’re gonna argue – and bicker
And loudly discuss it….
So that – that is your story
You say it so nice, and it makes sense
He’s just an old friend – He’s not your type
He’s like a eunuch … a brother … a buddy
And besides- he’s gay
Oh how could I doubt you?
I know that you love me I’d like to sign up, but ….
We’re gonna fight – yes we’re gonna fight
We’re gonna argue – an bicker
And loudly discuss it…

The Residents.

from the late 60s to early 80s they did dadaesque sound
experimentations based on jazz, rock, elektronika,
tape-music, 60s pop, john cage avantgarde etc.
in 1979 they released the first album with "soundscapes",
eskimo.

in the 80s and 90s they made lots of concept albums about
american music and american culture.

in 2002 they released a concept album about september 11th
and this year they'll release an album based on sounds
animals create and takes a view on human nature out of
animals' perspective.

they released about 40 - 50 full length albums from.

i dont like them anymore though.

Air- 10 000hz legend has more invention in one track than
most acts can sustain throughout a whole album, they also
remain accsessable and never lapse into "wigged out"
alienating rubbish (like so many "unique acts" tend to do),
they don't need to.

Disco Inferno- Imagine the musique concrete soundscapes of
Schafer et al married to the pop sensibilities of New
Order/Joy Division, like Air they are bleeding edge but very
listenable, recommended albums Technicolour/DI go pop.

M83-maybe less accsessable than the last two acts, and a
little bit basic and repetitive (on some tracks) but well
worth checking, they are definitely breaking new ground
that's for sure. Kind of like a more analog synthy cinematic
version of My Bloody Valentine.

demons dance alone.

soundguy, well, don't get me wrong, i like both m83 and air
a lot (i've only heard couple of disco inferno songs, so
i'll check them out some more), but air is just awesome pop
music and not something too unique im affraid, as for m83,
you said it yourself, much like my bloody valentine which is
awesome and i like their new album (before the dawn heals
us) a lot!

for the residents, try "duck stab" ep first. the cd edition
also included the "buster & glen" ep, making a full length
album. it's probably the most accessible (in the loosest
residential sense) stuff in their catalog...

I would say that Air go beyond the constrains of just pop
music, there are elements of pretty much everything in their
sound (prog rock,electronica,lounge,ambient,symphonic etc)
but you can always tell it's them, no-one else sounds like
them and those that try to (Zero 7 anyone?) always end up
falling flat on their arse, therfore I would say they are
very much unique, they also incorperate production
techniques that are very innovative and original (the DJ
coming in at the end of "Radio #1" for example), I can
honestly say that in all the 20 odd yearsI've been buying
and listening to records no-one has sounded quite like
them.
As for M83 the MBV comparison was just to give a rough idea,
I think that M83 have taken that sound and pretty much
re-invented it, in fact MBV actually sound very lame and
twee when played next to M83, not all of their stuff of
course but there are definetly elements of their music that
as I said before is breaking new ground.
Concerning Disco Inferno, listen the first half of "DI go
pop" or "It's a kids world" from Technicolour, the proof is
in the pudding.
