do you purchase the music you love?

there is something special about the excitement you get when
trying to unwrap a newly bought album.

maybe, but for me its the music that plays from the
original, there is something very special about that

the music would be the same as you would get on mp3, though
the quality would probably be a bit better. when it comes to
electronic music i usually prefer to hear it on cd.

no, never. i only own a handful of genuine cds, the rest i
burn to cd-r. i don't think the artists deserve my hard
earned cash which i could spend on other luxuries instead,
like women and cocaine.

Yes , i buy the really good shit. Buying music has become
more of a collecting thing nowdays.

Last purchase was Silverbullit - Arklight

yes, I buy it if I like it, and it is commonly available and
not at some crazy import-price which doesn't get justified
by the distance the thing has travelled...

also, I've recently been able to pick up on the flaws of
mp3s, which annoys me, and thus, I have few mp3s...

yeah, i try to buy as much as possible.
i download a lot too, but i have never bought so many
records as i did in the last year, partly thanx to p2p
networks.

p2p now is like the new litmus test for good music for me,
very rarely will i actually put burned mp3's on a cdr and be
happy with the result - unless i buy them from bleep - which
brings us to the next question - where do pay mp3 sites fit
in to this discussion?

Depends, really. I just "inherited" about 4 gigs of music
from a friend at uni with a ridiculous amount of bandwidth,
mostly at quite high quality. If i bought all of the stuff
i've heard and liked on mp3 i wouldn't have any money for
anything else. The ones i buy are mainly albums i've heard a
few tracks from and really liked. It does make me feel a bit
guilty, especially if the artists are struggling to make
themselves heard.

offline uzim on 2005-01-17 13:03 [#01463701]
Points: 17716 Status: Lurker

when i can, usually. i.e. when it's findable (not
out-of-print or hard to find as fuck) and when i have
money.

though not always; anyway i won't feel guilty about
downloading an album if i've already bought 3 or 4 by the
same artist.

when the price is over €20, and from a big record company,
i wait until it drops - €21 or €22 CDs can sometimes be
found some months (or weeks if lucky) later at €8.99 for a
limited time.

offline mrgypsum on 2005-01-17 13:11 [#01463718]
Points: 5103 Status: Lurker

i dont feel guilty for not buying an artists release,
because if i like it that much, i will remember it and buy
it at a later date - examply restproof clockwork by plaid -
i have a cdr with downloaded mp3's and i absolutely love
that album but i have yet to see it at a good price, such as
under 20 usd. therefore i wait, i will definetly buy it as
soon as i am able though + i will see them live whenever i
can + i also own the original edition of most of their other
stuff - so the guilt thing never comes into play with me
since i know i will get around to it sooner or later, and if
i dont then shame on me.

offline zkreso from Kr.sand (Norway) on 2005-01-17 13:19 [#01463727]

If I download a release from an artist I don't know about
and end up liking it, then I will probably not buy it. I
will however buy any other releases that artist might have
in their catalogue.

i also inherited about 20 gigs of music. i wouldn't be able
to buy all these albums even if i lived to be 41.

i feel somehow cheapened though. i wish i had never received
them. then again, so much good music :) ahh..i don't know.

i think i've listened to each song at least once. A lot of
the stuff i don't even touch, like the 2 gig of psy trance.

if you can afford that luxury then yes, its simple
economics, but some people, like me, have to be careful what
they buy and when - if i spend more than i made im dead.
regardless of respect to an artist which is itself not
respect to the artist but the record company.

CDs and Records sound better than crappy MP3's so yes if i
like an album and want to hear it better, I’ll go buy the
authentic thing.

I usually download for preview purposes, if at all. If
something is released on a formal hard copy, then I'll
probably buy it. I can never feel like I'm truly a fan or
have given an artist my due unless I lay down the cash for a
real recording of it. I rarely download anyway because of
all these RIAA busts recently. Makes me paranoid. Prolly
for the best though, makes me think harder about what I
listen to.

You don't download because of the RIAA?

Download things! if you want it support it, if not don't.

Unless you are sharing lot's of things you're untouchable.

Don't be scared of the RIAA!

good thoughts, EXCEPT the riaa part, if you get busted you
KNOW we here would help you out, pay for your fees and such

i just listen to music at the record store, wher ethey let
you open the cd, order them, or at the book store wheer they
have this little thinkgy that has like a bazillion artists,
and ususally 30-45 second clips off the first 5 songs

im scared of JivverDicker's eyes...

I tend to agree with you about the RIAA, I wouldn't be
scared at all except that I'm still living on campus and
there were several busts last year. I'd just hate to think
I was downloading a solitary mp3 and I get caught when it's
not representative of my habits. But no, Jivver.. I rarely
share anything, and when I do the files are very sporadic
and usually crappy quality.

ps. thanks recycle, good to know you guys have my back :)

Yeah. I ALWAYS download music first, but if it's special
enough to really win my heart (The Free Design- Kites are
fun, for one), I'll try to track it down. But only out of a
sense of duty and honor, I probably won't ever actually
physically touch the disc.

When I have money, that isn´t equipment spending money, I
buy what I´ve downloaded and liked.
Process:
Download;
{
if "don´t like"
then "don´t buy"
if "like"
then "go buy";
}
