where the fuck is my goddamn overpriced binder and vinyl?

After listening to it quite a bit... it seems to have some
stockhausen type sounds in it.

Are there pics in the folder? Can someone scan them?

yay!

I think it's pretty friggin great. And I know I'll like it
even more after repeated listenings, after every note of it
gets ingrained in my head. Fenix Funk is actually quite
anthemic. I mean there's some serious dancing,
fist-thumping, "oh
snap!"s-from-your-friends-when-you-turn-it-on potential
here.

I'm crapping my pants over new good aphex material,
and the prospect of much more on the horizon. You guys
should be too! Months ago we were wondering if we'd ever
even hear new music from RDJ again.

i'm gonna have to go with a yay..

3.75 out of 5.

Okay, i rated this at a 3.5/5 when I was sober earlier.
After ingesting the sweet vitamins, t, h and c, and having
another listen, I must change that to a 4.5/5.
Nice work Richard.

same here. I listened to both a pile of times to try to
figure out why aphex selected such strange structure, and
still I can't remember them (erm, and I can usually
_reproduce_ a melody on sheet music after the first listen).
fucking insane.

it is erratic. A little. I hear pianos in there too. What
intrigues me is, I know he has a house full of synths and I
know how sequencers work. Was this one take? It sounds like
it. It all flows in to each other. All the bits. There is so
much going on. drifting in and out. All very good. One of
those things that grows on you. Classic aphex. I love
aphex!! I wanna suck his gold plated auxilary cables!! 1/4
inch!!

no no no, it was sculpted, not one take. Check my thread
about 2'40"-4'20"; around 3'30" the filtered piano melting
into synth makes ME melt.. anyway

offline tnavelerri on 2005-01-15 00:23 [#01459897]

it may all be analogue synths, but he would have used
Max/MSP. He's a master at it.

You can also trigger sequences with sequencers.

eh, I don't know. Sounds pretty x0x stuff to me. Nothing too
insane. Standard hardware sequencers perhaps.

It's nothing amazing. It's no way as tight as drukqs but
there's something about it that makes me love it.

4.2/5

once is not enough

it's the classic "piano-track of drukqs meets
acid-track"-track
now, put it on repeat and report back in an hour

xmd5a has potential put goes nowhere interesting, and the
main melody at the end is offensive.

3/5

i think it is on purpose :P

yay, it's really growing on me, bit like drukqs : at first
it seems dosjointed but each listen bring more coherence to
the whole thing, still, i'm a bit annoyed by the funky
bass/voice of fenix funk but nothing irritating, totally
yaying for xmd5a for now !!!

much looking forward to 1&2...

soooooooooooo excited now! Bring on the 25/01!

xmd5a reminds me of the Autechre Pir era a little bit. .

In terms of being tracks by aphex, they are somewhere
between good and great. But a good aphex track is an amazing
track by any other artists standards.

i dont say Nay but i say okAY!

it's nice stuff but im not blown away or anything, i guess
deep down inside i hoped for one of these really new super
creative and complex albums.

But hey, im sure the lords will be an amazing collection of
tracks once they are all out

yay. mind you i've only listened once, but for now i'll say
4.5 out of 5.

i was really expecting this to be shit, to be honest; after
his last release and the price point of this i was convinced
it'd be some kind of rdj-style lol joke. it's not bad at
all, though, and i think it'll get better with each listen.

hmm.. well, it's kinda hard to judge since i think these two
tracks are just the first small peice in what is intended to
be a much larger complete work. so, i think it's unfair to
judge them before they're properly placed in context.

but, standing on their own, i'd give these tracks a 3.75.

101% yay!
Xmd5a totally got me. outstanding track. there's so much
going on in there that you have to listen for god knows how
many times to discover it all. a bit of an electro feel to
it.
this track makes me wanna move. spastically ok, but still.
love the synth that comes in at 04:36. someone called it
offensive here, but this is the shit!

Xmd5a = 5/5
Fenix funk = 3/5

bring on the other ones...
